If you've not seen this, it's arrogance, but sheer class at the same time. The first couple of mins and the final 2 balls are the high points :D

He is one of the reasons I can't stand watching snooker any more. He is obviously incredibly gifted, and I know it is old fashioned, but I still like sportsmen to display gentlemanly conduct.

He's just up himself. They'd call it match fixing in any other sport. So they so spot bets on 147's?

shows arrogance and a lack of respect for the fans-in any sport you want to see your heros doing the ultimate wether its a hatrick, nine dart finish or what have you, and for him to do this is a bit of a kick in the sack imoa.

id say barry hern has tried to make him the bad boy of snooker, just like he did with his boxers

Ronnie is probably the most exciting thing about snooker.

I like watching snooker but I do sometimes get a bit bored. But it's always more interesting when he is playing

His interview after, what a complete tit, never realised he was like that. Hope he goes out.

I agree. A 147 should be about the prestige, not the cash. Wasn't it his 10th televised 147 aswell?

I like Ronnie, I really do but this has just annoyed me.

I like watching him play, but what an arrogant ******** for that!
That other bloke must have felt so **** when he said that. Complete and utter ****.

Its his job. Why shouldnt he get the maimum return for his efforts.

I have always said that the best sportsman in the world are arrogant and thats what you need to be to be the best. It was a bit un sportsman like, but hey, it adds interest to a game thats for sure.

His 5 mins 20 second 147 is still the most amazing frame of snooker ever.

But he shouldn't have said that he wasn't going to bother potting the black just because there wasn't a prize. What a ****.

Why not, it's him, that's the way he is, some love him for that.

If you're that bothered about it, don't watch it!

EDIT:
Maybe he shouldn't even have potted the 147 to make the other guy feel better?

Reeder

Because it's disrespectful to the fans who paid to go and see the sportsmen doign the best they can. To deny them the privilige of seeing a possible 147 just because he wont get any financial gain out of it is awful.

Everyone seemed to enjoy it...

I do see your point. However it would have been terrible of him to leave the black on the table.

Same old stuff with these top sports types. They are not nice people, just exceptionally good at what they do.In the bike world think Casey Stoner,Carl Foggy and Mick Doohan.None of them would you ask round to meet the family, but watch them on track----Yes please.

Nigel Mansell, top sportsman and extremely nice bloke.
Tiger Woods, seems nice enough but you wouldn't want him meeting the wife ;)
I am sure there are more nice sportsmen and woman but at the moment I am struggling to even think of any sports.

Sports personalities are just like the rest of us - some are complete a***holes and some arppreciate what they have and are willing to give back.
I run a schools motorsports team with the support of Allan McNish and have recieved quite a few calls from Allan as he is sat on his balcony in Monaco, just because he has being thinking of us and wanted to put me in touch with someone able to help!
Met Chris Walker a few years ago thro' the same project and again was nice as pie to us 'little people'.
I think is just down to what kind of person they are and wether you meet them at the right time, the pressure these guys have on them from sponsors, teams etc is immense, their phones never stop ringing, and people wanting things from them.

I agree.
The 147 prize is there to encourage people to go for it.

He's being honest, my only criticism of this is that he should have found these things out before agreeing to take part. He then could have told the organisers on the quiet that he would not go for the 147.

I really wish they'd stop calling a 147 the maximum break. It's not. 155 is the maximum possible break. Doh!

Yeh I heard them saying that yesterday. Does the 155 need snookers or something?

Free ball from a foul, followed by the black, then the 147 break on top.

Free ball red would give you 16 reds and blacks, followed by all the colours gives you a break of 155 but a total score of 159 inc the initial foul on the red which led to the free ball

Ahhh. That's pretty unlikely to happen at the beginning of a frame isn't it

It has apparantly been done in practice by a player called Jamie Cope. There are some articles on tinterweb if you search 155 snooker break.

So what happens if you get two free balls in a game ;)

Nicked from internet also:

Jamie Burnett (Scotland) made a break of 148 on 16 October 2004, at the Prestatyn qualifiers for the Travis Perkins UK Championship. This was the first break over 147 in professional snooker. Burnett made the break in the 14th frame of his match against Leo Fernandez. He potted the brown as the extra red, then another brown followed by the 15 reds and all the colours. He made a blue on the first red, a pink on the last one and another pink on one of the other reds. The rest went with blacks. He went on to win the match 9-8.

Your break would have ended at some point to allow the other player to foul to give the free ball ;)
