Always thought a ploughmans was a cheese, ham, lettuce, cucumber, tomatoe, branston pickle and mayo sarnie (proper nutty brown bread loike) with a coupla packs o walkers crisps. Pork pie optional.

A ploughman's lunch consists of cheese, pickle, bread (a crusty BRITISH variety :p ), butter and a green salad. Pickled onions are often included. There is no meat on a traditional ploughman's lunch. The cheese is normally Cheddar or Stilton, but can be any British cheese.

Ham, pork pies and the like are optional extras IMHO.

Note: don't put butter in it's foil wrapper in the microwave, it sparks, a lot.
