evening all,
I want to change my fork oil but cant work out a way of removing the forks, ive not got a centre stand so the front end is either on the rubber or a paddock stand on the under side of the forks, how can I support the front end whilst still able to remove the forks, any ideas would be much appreciated.
Ta
Ben
a bit of wood propped under the front cylinder header will do it or somthing like that, how most peeps here do it or suspend the front end from a garage beam

car jack under front cylinder(piece of wood between jack and cylinder) + rear paddock stand. Loosen all of the fork and wheel bolts before jacking bike up.

But do loosen the fork caps before removing the forks.

I've had a look at the bike and cant work out how a block under the front cylinder with a jack would help, the front cylinders at an angle and even with a correctly cut piece of wood what's to stop the wood slipping off the cylinder, sorry to be a pain. I've been pondering this all day.
now this is really cheeky, have any of you got any photographs explaining the block of wood thing, or know of any on tinernet.
Thanks guys

I use an Abba stand, but the bike is nose heavy so it just needs something under the engine sump to lift the front end while pivoting on the stand. If you dont have a stand you will have to improvise.

why do you want to take forks out to change the oil,go to screwfix and buy a oil pump,it looks like a grease gun,and sucks out about half litre a time. you may need to add a bit of stiff pipe and suck oil out from the top of forks, and then just top it up with fresh oil, about half hour job

because you dont get all the build up of crap out of the forks like bits of metal...
and place the jack just behind the oil filter theres like a flat ish bit

yes i see what you are saying, but with a 8 or 10mm pipe(thats the size of the hole in the pipe) right at the very bottom of the forks and sucking 500mls in as little as say 5 seconds it doesnt leave much in the bottom, and you can always rinse the forks out by filling the pump up with with a solvent/degreaser and washing the bottom of forks out, which can then be pumped out and then sucked back up several times untill you think it is clean enough,or you can spend at least 2 or 3 times longer and take the front end off

I agree use a pump. I proped the bike up on a work bench, jack as back up, you can see the angle i went in from.

With the paddock stand on, simply place a jack under the front exhaust pipe to lift the front.

that made my day a little more brighter, but i'm sure he only wants to remove the front forks, not remove the whole front end, radiator, downpipe, life force.

Removing forks and cleaning them properly is the right way to do the job.
Like this...
Axel stand was put in while I was away at the tyre shop in case jack lowered off.
Block of wood between jack and sump to spread the weight and heavy weight on rear seat to keep it on the paddock stand.
