Try contacting redmacgregor on these boards, he's selling a nitron shock that he had on the bike he sold me (k8). Bike was top notch condition so I'm sure any parts he's selling will be the same.

I can vouch for the Nitron. Spot on and what I have on my bike!

I have a ZZR1400 shock on mine, spring rate seems pretty well matched to my (admittedly ample) frame and no cutting needed (you do need to remove the plastic shield in front of the battery box though). That said I couldn't find any details on the actuial spring rate, but from the number of turns and wire diameter it's somewhat lower than a ZX10R shock.

Just fitted a k5 gsxr1000 rear shock to my sk9 all I need was a gsxr1000 bottom shock bolt and nut cost £6 from George whites and some thread lock reused old nuts only a little cutting needed of the battery tray. I got a new smaller battery £32 so does not touch seat. You can use cut out plastic to remake tray to stop battery hitting shock.

do we know of any shocks bar the expensive ohlins etc which do not require the battery box to be cut?

On a pointy the ZZR14 and 06-07 ZX10R shocks simply need a small plastic part unscrewed from the toolbox/battery box to fit. Completely reversible if for some odd reason you wanted to fit the original etc. ZZR shock will probably have too high a spring rate unless you have a pie retention problem ;)

Sadly you don't find many ZX10R shocks (of the right year) going cheap on eBay etc.
