Apparently on Friday, I bought two iphone. one for £560 and the other for £320. I have never bid on these, would not want one. I am now being chased for payment.
The weird thing is the first I was in the house eating dinner at the time the purchase was made, and the second I was getting ready to go out. How could my account get used like that?
Yes, I leave my computer on permanently as it also acts as my web server.
Trying to contact ebay at the moment, but no 18 in a queue with a 20 minute wait
Ed, Change your password immediately! They may still be shopping.
If you have Yahoo messenger, Virus check it. Theres a new snooping virus going around.

Did the emails asking for payment appear to have come from eBay/PayPal? If so, have you checked the email headers to ensure they originated from said companies and that they're not simply forged? Both companies sign all emails with DomainKeys and DKIM to make things easier.

Yeah, the messages are also in my ebay account, ebay shows I have won these, now disovered I was outbid on a third iphone. Now 10 in the queue with a 54min wait.
Password changed. I use Mcafee anti virus, upto date.
Do ebay record the ip address used to bid?. That should be able to help me trace where I am compromised. Am I going to get some lousy feedback when I tell the sellers it wasn't me, so not paying.

If you tell e-bay that you didn't make the bid they generally check the activity and if the bids are not consistant with your normal useage (i.e. buying multiple numbers of the same item for silly money) they generally accept your word for it.

Sellers aren't able to leave negative or neutral feedback for buyers so nope, no lousy feedback.

As said change password (and email or any other password if they use the same one), security question and do a thorough malware sweep. I'd probably download something standalone to use along side your mcafee.

They used to, used to be ****ing annoying if your ip changed they'd insist on ringing your home phone with a password...if you don't have a home phone you're screwed!
Edit: actually that could just be for selling

Strange scam, can't see who's going to make money from it?
You can leave nasty feedback for buyers, it might not show as a NEG but you can WRITE SOMETHING NASTY IN CAPS IF YOU WANT so it stands out at least.

try using Spybot Search and destroy
unfortunately, mcafee is a load of....<you insert your own word here>
the detection engine does not do jack about a virus running or even sitting in your system unless ANOTHER program attempts to access the infected file.
best to not renew your subscription and get something like Avast free.
couple that with the resident sheilds of spybot and you have a nice secure system.
also, get a firewall app if your not using a router and have a modem plugged straight into your pc.

Mcafee comes free to me as work take the view that I am less likely to infect a works system if my home systems are protected by the product they support. My firewalls are Checkpoint firewall-1 NG.
All the tests I have done have shown none of my systems have spyware or bots. It really is a pity the ebay would not tell me from where the dodgy bids were submitted. The only place I have ever used Ebay outside of my own systems are at my brothers so there may be an odd chance that some login credentials were saved there. But trying to track it down without the address of the offender is hard work.
I used to use spyware search/destroy. But dumped it as it kept getting in the way.
I guess I shouldn't be lazy and turn off my windows VM's when away. I only need to keep my web, mail and Oracle systems up full time.
Bugger, been found out. Looks like im going to have to hack someone elses account now.
I keep getting loads of fake emails from a ropey ebay-a-like site saying that items im watching are finishing and items im watching etc. Checked my ebay account and all is well. I still however, may close it down...i think im going to do that now.
