View Full Version : I`ll Never Make A Business Woman

Story starts this morning...........

Was working and was on my way to visit a patient when driving up a main road I saw an elderly man in an invalid carriage. As the man crossed the pavement and attempted to cross the road his carriage toppled over throwing him onto the road. There was nowhere to park on the main road so I nipped up a side street, parked the car then ran over to help him. He wasn`t hurt, just shaken up and together with a couple of guys we got him and his carriage upright and off they went on their merry way. I got back to my car and was overjoyed to find a parking ticket as in my haste I`d failed to see the sign stating it was a permit holders only space. Bugger I thought :smt090

At the end of my calls I decided to visit the car wash. The car wash is a disused garage that has been taken over by a company offering valets and car washing by hand etc. As I was waiting for my car to be washed and it was all soaped up a car pulled up alongside and one guy shouted out of the window enquiring how much I charged for a sex act involving ladies breasts and lots of soap!!!

After giving them an evil stare it suddenly occurred to me that I could have quickly shouted £25 thus earning the money that my parking ticket is going to cost me. How slow am I???????

Or would this maybe considered unprofessional seeing as how I was in uniform :D :smt026

LOL Claire you're a hoot (-er) :-D

Sorry to hear about the parking ticket though, typical when you were doing a good turn :-( still, that good deed will repay itself tenfold (just not this time...) karma's good like that :-)

25quid for a parking ticket! That's cheaper than the car parks around here!

In that case surely it's "working girl" not "business woman"?

Is the parking ticket from the council or from a private firm? Look closely, they are similar...

If it's from a private company ignore it and ALL following letters, the ticket is legally unenforceable and they know that, you won't get taken to court and they'll eventually give up

If it's from the council you might as well write a letter rejecting the ticket, at the very least it'll cost them the time it takes to print a standard rejection letter and the stamp to post it to you - make them earn their pound of flesh

£25 if paid within 14 days then it goes up to £50

It`s a council one, it`s probs best to pay it now rather than appeal as I could end up paying thr £50 :(

Contest the ticket on the grounds that you are a nurse in uniform and stopped to deal with an emergency as you described.I mean the bloke falling over, not the proposition in the carwash.
As for the post title I would have to agree.A proper business woman would have charged a lot more than £25 thus factoring in a healthy profit margin.

Not so!

Write a letter asap, send it off. You will still be valid for the £25 fee as your appealing it within the timescale. Even if it goes over 14 days, you ahve replied within the 14 days so will not be charged the £50.

tbh, I think you've got good grounds for an appeal. Even more so if there is cctv around.

I would contest it or try. But I love the car wash bit.

I hate going into pubs at work, i always get 'are you the stripper' ...... original.

Men see a uniform and think with their smaller gland.:) ..... or the only gland they own in most cases.

Next time just stop right in the road and put hazards on - gotta be the best way to ensure no-one gets run over?!

well - I simply asked if she still wore "the blue" and that was her reply - so if she walks into a pub dressed like that, what are men supposed to do?????

I did think that... but not until after the event :smt090 Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I`m going to appeal, and thanks to whoever it was who advised me that the price won`t go up whilst I`m appealing, is useful to know.

back on thread - you simply have to appeal this - even the "jobsworths" should see some sense - well, hopefully

And I really hope you get a result. It's a travesty that someone doing the right thing ends up getting penalised. Best of luck!

Yeh, I would not be paying that ticket!

Speedy Claire
28-09-10, 08:03 PM
I`ll definitely appeal but i`m wondering whether to be totally honest and state the truth OR I do have a parking permit which entitles me to park in residents only areas, sod`s law I forgot to take it with me today. I`m thinking that it might be worth sending a photocopy of the permit and saying that it was there but must have fallen down?

Milky Bar Kid
28-09-10, 08:03 PM
Do both...

Biker Biggles
28-09-10, 08:07 PM
Round here you can have as many permits as you like but if its not properly displayed you are guilty and have to pay.
You should win an appeal with the true story, but they may try and wriggle out of it by demanding some sort of evidence of the incident.Like cctv on the main road or a witness who saw something?????

Speedy Claire
28-09-10, 08:07 PM

Yep, I agree with you there :D

The traffic warden would have seen the incident on the road, he/she couldn`t have missed it! I`ll give them the benefit of the doubt though and say that they might not have realised that it was my car and that I was actually helping. I`d like to think that had they known then they`d have had the good grace not to slap the penalty notice on the car.

It might be worth asking a couple of the local shops if they know of any CCTV. Many thanks

Milky Bar Kid
28-09-10, 08:10 PM
Deffo do both. I would be shocked if they tried to enforce the ticket if you told them both things...and if they did, I would be tempted to write to local MP and take it to local paper as you were acting in your duty as a nurse in an area that you already have a parking permit for...

Ruffy
28-09-10, 08:23 PM
And ... you were doing your best not to cause an obstruction by parking considerately off the main road.

And ... you were in enough of a hurry to ensure an already dodgy situation didn't get even worse.

So what if you forgot to display your permit: Spin 'em whatever yarn gets you out of it and doesn't leave you feeling morally guilty. How many ways do they want it? You did a good thing today!!!

Speedy Claire
28-09-10, 08:32 PM
Aww thank you, that`s really nice of you to say. And you`ve given me some really useful pointers there. You can actually appeal via email now, so that`s what i`m about to do.

Thanks again everyone for all the advice.

I think that after my slow attempt to earn some money today I won`t be giving up the nursing just yet.... I think my business would go bust

You should definately contest the ticket, firstly the cheaper £25 fee is still valid if you make an appeal and things go over 14 days, secondly your reason for parking there is a very valid one, would they rather you drive on by and ignore the person in trouble! If the council wont let you off the ticket then write to your local paper.

Watch out for the old "ulterior motives" - you might have to get all soaped up twice ;)

BigBaddad

What you should have done was to film the old duffer.

You could have then bagged £250 from Harry Hill and not picked up the fine....you'd have been laughing all the way to the bank and brought much joy to millions and picked up £25 to boot.

I feel sorry for you for missing out on such a golden oppertunity, so if you send me some pictures of hot soapy action. I'll send you a nice crisp £25 note for your trouble.

Speedy Claire
29-09-10, 03:54 PM
Well firstly I`ve never seen a £25 pound note  and secondly wouldn`t it be dangerous trying to hold a camera with soapy hands?? I might drop my camera into the water and then I`d be a couple of hundred pounds worse off as opposed to just £25 :p

I had a reply to my email to the council and they`ve asked for a copy of the parking permit so i`ve said i`ll send them a photo.... no, not of soapy boobs! Tho in hindsight if I did I wonder if they`d consider dropping the charge :smt026

sod the council - just post the soapy pics here LOL;)

BigBaddad

They're a bit rare down in England as they're Scottish notes, but they're legal tender throughout the uk.

And all that soap would probably clean up all the pictures, which would sorely disappoint all the demanding folk on here - wot, no dirty pics!!!;)

Only joking hun ;) x

I think my business acumen requires a bit more work. I couldn`t decide which to buy out of 2 pairs of shoes so I bought them both! Obviously the combined cost is more than the parking ticket would have been so a bit of fine tuning required before I present my business plan to Dragons Den

That's worth an extra £15 alone!

But anyway yeah appeal with the true story and surely they will have to at least consider it, if not it's a travesty.

You should see the scum in my local!
They regularly slap tickets on cars in a 2 hour limit bay the instant they park and deliberatly mis-print the ticket as

Observed: 12:10
Ticket issued: 12:10

So both honest in that respect and invalidating the ticket at the same time but no doubt enough people are dumb enough to just pay up that they consider it worth it and can just say opps I misprinted it to the ones that complain.
Sister in law had one yesterday and they did it in her face, didn't even have the courtesty to wait for her to walk away!

The council are no help either, when we moved in and it's 2 hour only, residents excempt, and I enquired about parking the bike there sans permit (obviously) they said it would be Ok for that road.
2 tickets later they say oh, we forgot to mention your road is fine..except that very end bit where you live so you DO have to pay the tickets even though we told you to park there and ignore contest the tickets..*sigh*
