I can't get insured on a 600ss so what other alternatives are there to the sv?
Im having a hard job finding a decent SV this time round for a good price,
I paid 2600 for my Black naked K5 with just over 1000 on the clock and all the mods in my sig. so was basically a brand spanker.
Er6 but looks a bit ugly, any one got any views on this bike compared to the SV?
I'm not really into bandits.
the hyosung 650 doesnt get very good reviews.
any more out there ?
cheers ant.

hyosungs are meant to be pretty poor quality wise, i think the er6-n looks nice, especially in black with the red frame, have you thought of getting yourself a hornet? No fairing so insurance is cheaper and and they are meant to handle very well.

If you want an SS600, why not get an older one - insurance should be much cheaper (as in I can afford to insure a 10 year old blade, but could never hope to insure a new one). Old doesn't mean less reliable if it's been well kept.

just tried a k1 CBR 600 and they still wont insure me,
im 21 .... got no years no claims as it stands.
3 points for speeding

If you are not at fault ask the insurance to give you enough money to replace what you had------even if it is over book, and compensation for the additional premiums on your insurance due to the other parties fault
Other alternatives to the SV?
Blasphemy!!!
Get another SV

Hyosung is better than 'internet' testers would have you believe - I've actually ridden a couple and they're nothing like the bikes I'd read about, actually very good in fact. Because of all the stupid horror stories about them however their resale values are kept low, so don't spend a lot of money though.
ER6 in all versions, (Versys included), is excellent - better than an SV in many ways.
Have a look at the other 600s, Hornet Frazzle etc - cheaper to insure than sports bikes.
Otherwise get older and stop crashing - this makes your insurance much cheaper. HTH.

I had a hyosung XRX125 and it was crap build .... and parts were expensive.
The crashing cannot be helped when you get dumb women doing u turns right into you path without even signalling or looking lol.
more info on the er6 being better than the SV please.

I'm not sure I'd describe it as better, but I certainly wouldn't call it worse either.
I find it to be quite an entertaining ride. Parallel twin isn't quite as engaging as the V-twin but still plenty of torque. Both the N and the F have a fairly upright riding position like the SV650N. Build quality on the ones I've see has been better than the Suzuki (and the facelift ones have a fuel gauge.) Not tried a Versys, but the owners swear by them (speak to Lozzo or Robchester)

Had a 125 Hyosung and the quality was shocking, was a single and just shook itself to bits, exhaust rotted through and the bolts were made of cheese.

have you thought about the kawasaki ninga 250cc. don't consider it as downgrading hindle as its a superbike and no mistake.

Lol ninja250 no ta been on a friends was boring....
I would endorse the Versys as its a great bike. Its got different cams to the ER6 so feels different to ride. Plenty of pull at low revs but runs out of puff if you were to get near to 3 figures.
It'll lift the front easier than the SV too

Calipers are similar seize-tastic design... steel frame rots a bit... Engine paint falls off worse on the kawa. nothing in it TBH.
However... parallel twin engines are 'orrible. If you must get an engine with the cylinders pointing in same direction make sure you get enough of them to make a proper motor :)

Aprillia Pegaso
Honda hornet or CBF600n
yamaha MT-03, XJ6, fazer/FZ6 or a XT
suzuki Bandit, gladius or another SV
Kawasaki versys or ER6
or a Triumph speed/street/daytona
Or theres plenty of cruisers if you prefer, maybe a crosser is better if you keep crashing, they break less!

need it for commuting so crossers are not ideal.

duno pal i do live in Salford so i think that plays a big part plus all my other claims and points.

Don't want to lecture, but some advanced training may help you spot this sort of thing before it's too late.

Believe it or not, if you're in town/city, a mid sized trailie like like an XT600 makes a great commuting machine: thin for filtering, torquey for traffic light grand prix, high-ish seat for good visibility, and they are a bit more damage resistant in minor scrapes than many others. Sadly less good for top speed antics on a sunday blast, but perhaps worth considering short term 'til your 33bhp time ends?
Alternatively, as mentioned by another, think about about older 600s e.g. early CBRs, FZR600, Thundercat, GPZ/GPX600. Or, less cool perhaps, the XJ600 or later Diversion are reasonable machines. If you buy carefully you can get a lot of bike for your money.

I have a new shape hornet.
I've had an SV sport. You wont be disappointed!!
Brakes and Handling are very very good.
Motor is still tight so not thrashing its nuts off yet. But it feels great. Very light and tax is cheaper.

Someone on here was selling a thundercat cheap.
Or as mentioned before, get a big trailie as they tend to stand up to a fair bit of abuse and are great for town and commuting.

big trailies are good if you need to haul people and stuff over long distances but smaller wheels and light weight are always fun. SV's are really great bikes so if you had one and you liked it just look for a new one.

hindle the dorsoduro is comes into both fun on rough roads, will do the commute easily and so much fun on saturday/sunday morning to teach the weekend warriors a lesson in speed, but you cant afford that or the insurance.
if in doubt try falcon bikes they will insure you on anything, or so they used to claim

The thing is iv still got 8 months let on my current policy otherwise iv had half decent new quotes but seems a waste to end the policy and they probably wont give me my money back as i paid in full.

Did your insurance company not cancel your policy when they wrote your SV off ?
Mine did when my car was written off. Even though I had paid in full up front.

nope they are just waiting for me to transfer the policy onto a new bike, anything that's more powerful or higher insurance group then the sv they just say the underwrites wont insurance me and they will have to do a brand new quote on a new policy.

So, short term get another SV to replace yours and ride that for the remaining 8 months of your policy and then see what your insurance options are like at the end of the term, you can always bin them off and change insurance companies at that point. If you buy a tidyish SV I wouldnt have thought you'd loose that much financially on it.

Yeah i think that's going to be the best option pal.

any thoughts on the DRZ 400 SM ?
Was seriously considering one as a second bike but saw sense and went for an SV.
DRZ - Really nasty seat, naff fuel range (fixable with aftermarket), slow unless you are on C roads/farmtracks.
DRZ + Great looking. Nice adjustable sussies. Cheaper insurance. Cheaper tyres. Cheaper to run. A lot of knowledge about to pep-up the performance...but as usual you need deep pockets for bhp.
It WILL get nicked!

Presumably he didn't make a claim against his own insurance if he was knocked off by someone else?
