Yippeeeeeee

On 25th Sept I finally left the 33bhp club,

I took my 9yr old son out pillion stylie, for a wee run,

1st time ever with a pillion, What a Difference I Thought!!!.

My Question is,

Any Tips/Tricks for carrying a pillion??

My wife didnt want me to take our son on the bike,, I was a bit nervous myself,

All advice very welcome

Thanks Mark and Ryan

Well done on getting to full power....brilliant feeling isnt it =].

As to pillions:
- take it easy
- expect longer breaking distance due to more weight as expected
- and cornering will be odd as he may move around which can throw you off balance.

but just be smooth and clam with the bike as although you know what your son wont si just smooth out the riding.
All my pillions have found sitting as far forward as possible and hands on the tank nice and easy.

although when i was starting to pillion my dad got a belt that had a handle either side which was brilliant (would recommend if hes going to be a on more often than not ) as it ment less sliding or tipping back.

hope he enjoyed it though.

only tip I'd say is now you've twice the power get used to it, especially if you're going to be taking your son on the back. Its surprising the extra kick.

But like badger said, be smooth, break nice and early, watch it coming to a stop at lights etc. as sometimes the front can get a bit waggy dog and although your son should be light enough to stop this little problem, tell him and any other pillion to NEVER sit up when your going round a corner. My mate did this, leaned to the left as I was going round a roundabout and nearly had us both on the floor

I didn't start pillioning with my dad until I was 12, mainly because I was too busy bombing around on a little 50cc crosser. He had the start em young mentality too so good on ya :thumright: no mini mes as of yet so my 7 yr old nephew....his time will come!

Thanks for the replies guys,

"Badger" My son loved going out on the bike and he cant wait for his next run out, Im just waitin on the weather improving,

When I had him on the back it was like learning again, it was a bit scary to say the least,

I got a set of love handles the belt you were describing, they are great because it means he aint squeezing the life outta me while on the back.

Its great to be outta the 33bhp.

Fantastic!!!

I tend to use the back brake a little more and increase the braking distance when carrying a pillion, it helps stop the front diving so much and then they dont slide into you as much.

Most of it is about practice though.

Pete and Lissa go everywhere on the bike together and they are quick too...nutters..

They would be good people to ask for pointers.
