I don't like it when they change one that was an amusing and humorous title to one that is simply a monotone description of the thread contents... that's just a c**ts trick.

But... when I see someone has tagged "AGAIN" onto the end of exhaust or tyre thread title number 1,435,876 it saves me reading it.

So... it balances out... and I've got more interesting things to raise my blood pressure over.

Specialone
02-10-10, 10:14 AM
Yes i fooking do, i went to the trouble of thinking of one which was relevant to my thinking at the time, totally pointless messing with them, especially when the searches half the time dont call up what im after anyway.

If you see a thread titled 'what can?' or 'which tyres?' do you really need 'again' on the end of it to tell you that it is a repeat thread? If new threads weren't put up we'd all be riding around on BT 010s and trying to find Art cans.

AndyBrad

someone puts what they want in a title the way they are thinking about it. Changing it is rude imo, as well as making the op think theyve then done something wrong.

Ive had them changed that have same it sound as though i was asking for information on breaking the law. This is well beond changing it to an informative title. I can see how it could help in a technical question but to be fair i just think its changing it for the sake of it half the time. To make the mods feel imotent (thats how its spelled right? ;) ) it also doesnt help if your away from the forum and come back and cant find your thread as its now called something else.

last time i complained about it i wasnt given rime or reason just got my threads deleted. wonder if this will go the same way?

on the flip side on another forum im on they want 50% of any proffits you make through them (either services or for sale) and take ownership of any photos you put up so its not all bad is it?....

I wasn't 100% serious about that but you can see point... not fussed about it when just messing with the titles of threads when people just can't be *rsed to search or look 2 pages back.

I think last night was out of order. If someone posts up a silly thread, even IB, they get a row. If we do something the mods don't like, we get a row. Now that is completely fine with me, but when mods, who given the time of night, are clearly minging drunk start messing about with peoples thread titles then yeh, thats outta order.

With regards to the BT&I section, that was getting taken too far, peoples titles were fine and were needlessly getting changed.

Personally, I think it's rude and shows a lack of respect for the person posting the thread.

teaching A Levels vs reading a bike forum?

Nope. Not similar at all!

No disrespect meant here at all Messie but you are one of the people who are the first to shout "take it to the megathread" so surely you understand why this then annoys people?

Messie

Lol I'd happily shout it now. Seems the best place for randon moanings as well as other stuff

Milky Bar Kid
02-10-10, 12:11 PM
People are well entitled to their opinion though I suppose and whilst last night was clearly meant to be a wind up, there are quite a few people, more the BT&I lot, who are REALLY annoyed by this so I think it is something that should be discussed.

Messie

I don't think we are. We are essentially being told put up or shut up with no reasons being give as to why it is being done. Tipsy mods? Mod humour?

Personally, I don't really care, but it is disingenuous to suggest we are actually discussing it.

Messie
02-10-10, 12:27 PM
Maybe the title of this thread should be changed to 'post here if you agree that changing thread titles is a crime on a par with ......... (fill in the blanks to your own preference of bad crime)'

:)

Though it was always bound to go that way, the purpose of this thread wasn't for another argument, it was to gauge strength of feeling on the forum on the issue, by means of a democratic vote.

So far just over 70% said they don't care.

If a proportion of the other 30% want to air their grievances about it on the forum that's also their democratic right to do so, anybody that doesn't like it doesn't have to read the thread, but so far it would appear that in the case of 70% of their audience, those grievances are falling on apathetic ears. Maybe the balance will tip this evening or tomorrow as more people log on.

Personally if I had an issue with a mod, and I knew it was an issue the majority didn't care about, I'd take it up with them via PM, but that's just my view and doesn't mean anybody else's view is right or wrong.

-Ralph-
02-10-10, 12:39 PM
Maybe the balance will tip this evening or tomorrow as more people log on.

And it changes to 67% as we speak :D

Though the objectional vote will be stronger than the apathetic vote in any situation, as many of those who don't care won't even read the thread.

I don't know about that one, never tried to find out which particular mod did what. We know who the mods are for each section, PM them all. If there nothing that shows "last edited by" as it does with posts?

Milky Bar Kid

Neither of the IB mods show as online for last night, we all checked at the time it was being done. Fizz knows who it was but won't say.

There is a forum setting that stops people knowing when you are online, doesn't show current activity or last activity in your profile, so just 'cos you can't see it doesn't mean they weren't there.

fizzwheel
02-10-10, 12:52 PM
It's TSM that's doing it, you can Pm him about the Ib threads he's changed but I doubt you'll get anywhere, Sid squid is changing the techy section thread titles again you can pm him if you wish to discuss it with him.

You wont get anywhere, forums are not a democracy. Its a subtle power trip some staff have for being in control. I have been banned so many times for moaning about similar issues on other forums. Best thing to do is live with it or do an alpinestars.

Saying that a democratic forum would be a great idea! Having the admin and mods change every year after a vote.

I've given a reason's for it happening within the technical sections before in the past, yet here we are with another thread on the same subject....

As for Idle Banter threads, I personally dont see any need to keep changing the titles, I'll raise it with the mod team and hopefully normally service will resume shortly.

Actually, there are 30% more people that have voted that it should stop than the other way. So the vote wins by 30%

30% would have to vote that it was a good thing to be a stalemate.

Being apathetic and not caring is abstention and thus none of their votes counts. The 30% that have said its "wrong" outnumber those that say its "Right"... by 30%.

Motion carried! by 30% stop the editing! ;)

Thats democracy for ya!

Those that don't care? Tough ****! You should have cared!

Glad we got that sorted.

Mostly storm in a tea cup, ain't it...

Agree with much of what Fizz has said...by the way, whay do you seemingly always sound sensible : -D.

Oh and even in 'idle banter' I reckon there is arguement for 'tiltles' not to be unnecessarily just plain silly/daft/*insert preferred word* .....depends on the subject matter obviously. Reason being, not all topics in idle banter are rubbish :p and so, would help if using the search facility.

Perhaps , some folks need to realise "it's not a clucking contest" to see who puts up the best thread tiltle  ;)

Actually Fizz it dont really matter that much if we're all being honest, i find it mildly annoying tbh, but aint worth putting the org on a big downer, it dont need much encouragement lately to do that.

So, ill not moan anymore and just change the thread title in my posts if it bothers me that much.

i see cries for change, outrage at moderation style, polls going up and revolt begin call for
but here the one simple problem that yove missed

THE ORG IS NOT A DEMOCRACY

if my understanding is correct ,if tsm wills it there is no org, he hits the little button which shuts down the server " and bang the org is gone" :compcrash:

now i know tsm and he's a decent enough bloke (for a southern shandy drinking poof) and he does not hold the forum to ransom but , the fact is he could , personally id be a bigger barsteward but hey im just a pr1ck all the time :D

so please mbk scream that youve been wronged :smt076, berlin throw your teddy at the wonder bucket :smt068:albino:, everyone cry foul play and demand change :smt097

the truth is we dont have a vote ,no one has to listen to us and "them in charge" can do as they please:farao:

now this forum being what it is, our OPINION his taken into account and sometimes inacted, but again we have no say just opinions, and we all know about what opinions are like :-dd

Not missed anything myself either.

The poll was started with the simple objectives already stated, to gauge strength of feeling on the forum

People have a democratic right to air their views, that doesn't mean that the 'org' can't edit or delete them.

The org has given people the ability to start a poll, that doesn't mean the org has to act upon the results.

I'm not personally under any illusions over whether or not the org is a democracy.
