Did anyone catch that show supposedly hunting a creature that is attacking seals and leaving them all cut up?
It was on in the background. Some kind of very slow shark that peeled them like an orange.

Oh right fair enough, cheers :)
Yup I watched it, fairly interesting.
Apparently the sharks used to eat scrap fish that was being thrown from fishing vessels. However, the vessel over fished and were banned from the area.
The sharks then looked for alternative food... hence the seals.
The seals often sleep under water, infact it turns out quite often. The sharks would then bimble around search for sleeping seals then munch on them.
The reason the seals were being mutilated in such a strange corkscrew type manner was entirely down the their composition and skin/muscle layout. If you pulled one from the mouth and the tale it would just split open in a spiral fashion.
Mystery over.

I'd have thought that was obvious
Which bit?
The mystery was that they did not think there was any predators in the waters around the island, the sharks are scavengers and slow movers so they could not catch a seal.
