Does anyone know if the spring from a standard SV650S shock can be removed and replaced? I know you cant dismantle the rest of the shock, just want to know if the spring itself can be swapped and if so, how do you remove it from the shock?

Thanks

Not sure if stock is welded.

Have a look around bottom of spring, there are usually collets held in place by spring pressure. If the perch is solid and part of shock then it will be a right git to do. You'd have to grind old tabs off at top that preload ring detents in and weld them back on after.

(usual caveat for anyone else reading... I do not think this mod is worthwhile or a good idea as it is likely to further show up the lack of rebound inherent to stock shock and worsen the poor handling)

Cheers YC. I've had another look at the shock, and it looks like it would have to be done by grinding old tabs off as you said (which I'm not willing to do) I was under the impression that the Hyperpro springs were supposed to be a relatively easy swap? Looks like I'm gonna have to wait until i've saved a bit more cash to sort the rear suspension :(

Hyperpro are happy to tell you one weigh of progressive spring is good for anyone from 6 stone to 20 stone rider with a 20 stone pillion and baggage.

That does not lead me to trust anything they say about their parts. Buy penske.
