Hi all,

I should probably post this in an ICE forum somewhere but that means I have to register and I'm not new here so...

I have a Peugeot 307 with a Pioneer headunit and pioneer front speakers (and tweeters) which is ok - aka not good enough.

I'm thinking of putting some 3 or 4-way 6x9 pioneers in the parcel shelf to get a more all-round sound and to add some bass because the 13cm's I've got in the front are mainly mid and the dash-mounted tweeters for treble.

I cant get a sub cos I need the room in the boot.

So the question is, will I need to buy an amplifer when I buy the 6x9's or can I connect them up to the fitted head-unit with no loss of sound quality?

Discuss...:D

no but its advised a small one will do also you can stick a small 8 inch sun in the centre of the parcelself without losing space

but i must also agree with yc, on a bike forum it does scream chav but now you have an answer

now get your neons and 16 year old blonde in the passanger seat and your sorted :)

I thought I'd be safe in the 'Idle Banter' section but clearly not! You live and learn!

I ran a pair of 6 x 9's off a Pioneer 4 x 35 watt head unit a few years ago. I never noticed any appreciably loss in sound quality compared with a friends amp'd similarly setup system.

I'd be inclined to setup it up and see what it sounds like and take it from there. If you are crafy with the install I'd suspect you'd be able to mount hide the amp away and make a decent job out of it.

If you want a more sensible answer, PM Viney on here, he knows his stuff.

If you want proper oomph than an amp is the way, i used to be in car ICE quite a bit so know a fair bit.
Dont know bout now, but decent speakers used to be sold in component form or as 1 unit, but you must make sure they are designed to go in your parcel shelf into 'free air' (thinks thats the correct term, its been a while) or they wont get the sound they have been designed for, in other words, in a pod to a certain volume of air or free air as in a big boot full of air.

A half decent 2x50 amp would drive them nicely, the rule of thumb when i was into it, the head unit played the music, thats it, amps gave it the power.
In my mk2 golf i built some fibreglass door pods with JBL component speakers and a JBL amp to drive them.
If you want bass though mate, there aint no replacement for displacement, in other words, you gotta go big.
For punchy bass a 10 inch sub is perfect, for nice all round low sub vibes then a 12 inch, if you wanna rattle everything on your car than a 15 will do that nicely.
You could easily square off a section in your boot and fit a 10 inch sub, the manufacturer will give a recommended volume of air for the sub / box which to check you can fill with polystyrene balls and measure it so its close.

If space is a premium and you want a Sub for extra bass, have you considered an underseat Sub...
Like this one... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Armageddon-FL8-FL-8-8%22-UnderSeat-Active-Amplified-Sub_W0QQitemZ190434268589QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=149 350953881&rvr_id=149350953881&cguid=8a37abfe12a0a0e203607440fd0c1bb0
