Now summer seems to be gone I still want to do track days but need some more tyres. I have got some spare rims and full wets for if I really get forecast wrong. I have been told to get some sport tourers like dunlop roadsmarts or avon storm ultra 2's as these kind of tyres will warm up better in cold and give good grip in damp/light rain. Any experiences?

Full on sports rubber if its dry. You'll still get them hot.

Doin a trackday at oulton tomorrow and rear diablo s/corsa (sc2) is worn on sides so grips are barely visible, profiles not horrendous. What cold pressure should they be at on cooler days(on gsxr600) Should I use it for the day or get one from their van first thing? Hows the racing doin mate?

Storm ultra 2's . used them in the dry at brands in inters mid june, they held up well very well infact.

And they are great in the wet. they have actually been said they are close to wets in the rain on the track.

I did a trackday at Oulton last Halloween (dry) on Avon Storms and they were great! Gave all the sportier bikes a good run for their money too ;)

If you have ever used wets, then I very much doubt that!

Got a new rear diablo supercorsa sc2 fitted at oulton £165...ouch! At least **** Turpin wore a mask!! Was interesting on a new tyre, track was wet through for sighting laps then threw it down big time and had a hail storm in first session which red flagged it! To be fair they weren't too bad once I learn't the track. Scrubbed in nicely and easily got up to temp with no warmers even though it was chilly all day.

Used them for most of the season and our top choice tyre - expensive yes, but for a reason. We tried the cheaper tyre route too, more crashes, even more expense and the odd broken bone...........theres nothing, NOTHING, like the smell of hot Pirelli rubber in the morning.................

Having tried the Diablo and the old Pro this year I think I'll be going with the Pro next year. The performace of the pro is good enough without the extra expense. If Dave Bell can do 1.04 laps of East fortune on them, they'll do for me :)

I agree, the sv doesnt need the top spec tyre - trouble is the rider confidence does! Stick hot top tyre on rear and all of a sudden we have a race win in the bag! Was a time when I would discount some of the 'dodgy' feedback the mechanic was getting but then it transpired that actually, when the rider says 'theres something going wrong with the back end' sometimes its true. In one example the valve was letting out air leaving 10 psi in at the end of the race - guess the spanner monkey needs to listen more!

Did the BIKE mag Road bike only cadwell trackday on friday in int/adv group including ride there and back (240 mile round trip). Was bit miffed some people had vanned/ trailered their bikes there, I was in agony all weekend after the trip. First session was damp and was riding round outside of people on road tyres but had no moments. Ran 30psi F and R. Once it dried they warmed up easily and gave loads of confidence even though it was a cold day. My mate who came to watch reckoned I was one of quickest there, not bad for a tatty old GSXR SRAD 600! Having said that one of the BIKE mag guys came flying past me on a red, yellow and black GSXR SRAD 750 like I was cruising!! REMINDER TO SELF..Dont get too big for your boots, there are always plenty riders out there who can kick your butt!!! Back to tyres though, cannot recommend Diablo supercorsas enough. They seem almost idiot proof?
