I'm not actually wanting the plates, but could happily pop round with my bike for you to take measurements etc. I'm in Ormskirk. PM me if you're interested.

Since it looks like the guru has it sorted....Can I just have a set cheap? :(

What's the confusion with the 2008 - 2010 Pointies being different? I thought that all pointies rear sets were the same from 2003 - right to the new 2010?

I thought k3 were different as well.

I thought only the rear subframe was different on a K3?

rowdy
06-10-10, 04:16 PM
No, a lot more than just the subframe but only subtle, barely noticable differences.
I think the pegs sit a little higher on a k3 than later bikes, and i have been looking at woodcraft rearsets on the web and their site says k3 levers fit there rearsets but k4 onwards don't.

God damit. I got held up at work today so I've not managed to do this and probably wont until tomorrow night. :(

If someone else can do it sooner for you then fair enough.

Matt, will you be offering gear shift rods (or a small fitting to extend the existing rod)? As on my lowering (actually they're raising plates but that didn't stop me) I needed to extend my shift rod, and IIRC I had to fanny about to get the rear brake switch to work correctly.

Nobbylad
06-10-10, 09:18 PM
I'd still be happy to bring my bike along if your local to Ormskirk, however it won't be until Friday night at the earliest, or Saturday morning. I also have a K3 brake/ footrest/plate etc I could bring with me (but not the gear change side).

Don't need any raising/lowering plates so happy for you to send them to Guru (seeing as he was the 1st to reply) if you wish.

Why just make the peg brackets, why not make full adjustable rearsets?

Cos some people like me want to keep the OEM pegs.

How are you getting on with measurements for this?

I'm after a set so I can get my 6 foot 2 frame onto my Minitwin race bike comfortably and this would save me from making my own plates up.

I'll second the gear shift rod extension or longer bit.

I might even need to make up a new rear brake pipe too as by the time I'm done the original might not fit.

Cheers.

Jody.

Ste,

Do you want a set made for your bike if you brought it down for measuring?

Can I try the proto's first then decide? If I don't get on, then you'll have your measurments for nowt. If I do like them, then I get a set and can rave on the street-triple forum for you.

Where's the shop Matt? I can likely make it over in the next day or 2

... What are proto's?...

Prototypes I'd imagine.

BoltonSte
07-10-10, 09:30 AM
We are in Blackburn, near the Rocket centre. What are proto's?

That sounds fine just let me know if you want them and the dims we need

Prototypes - Don't have to be the pretty polished jobs, the first knocked up in steel or whatever you use.

I'm all of 20 mins away from you. I can pop up today or tomorrow with the bike after work if you want? I'm home for about 4 so can be there before 5.

Ste

BoltonSte

As I don't want to give you the wrong dimentions, how about I pop up straight after work tomorrow?

I'll bike in then come straight to you? If I do it this way, I can be there at 4.

Here are some images and measurements that might help.

My bike is a 1999 T reg curvy.

This is the gear lever side

http://i55.tinypic.com/28luplz.jpg

This is the brake side

http://i53.tinypic.com/doxtp1.jpg

The circular areas are 22mm in diameter which should give you what you need for the area around the holes. The threaded holes are M8.

These are my rearsets.

http://i56.tinypic.com/mt8sp3.jpg

The bolt holes are 8mm.

The spacing between centres is 56mm as best as I can measure it.

Stack up is 8mm (hole) plus 48mm (between inner edge of holes) plus 8mm (hole) is equal to 64mm (between outer edges of holes).

Hope this helps.

I'll scan my rearsets at work tomorrow with a ruler so you can check the measurements but bear in mind the 8mm holes have chamfers (can see these best on bottom right hole) so the measurements may be out a touch.

Jody.

I've managed to ride in today Matt.

Give me more details about where you are and I can bob over straight after work.

The linkages on the triple do some weird routing through/behind the frame so it's probably best if you look and see if risers can even be made for it.

Apparently according to the admin i am trying to sell parts to you guys so they told me to stop asking for information on return for free stuff, i think they forget we also support the site members by giving the highest discount currently to any forum ???????

Haven't you been here before Matt  Keep up the good work.

b*tching to us about decisions of admin won't get you anywhere.

Me bitching? I am just on wind up... it's what I do, and people make it real easy.
But, don't think you giving people a good price on stuff means site owes you something. It doesn't.

As gesture of goodwill I will bring you box of rearsets and my bike to take measurements from on Friday if you still need info. I am heading to lancaster anyway so it won't be owt out of my way. PM me if it is needed. I would rather see you selling these parts than some of other rip-off merchants around place!

Guys this is getting out of hand, theres two sides to every story and I think its a case of simple mis interpretation or confused messages.

Theres a thread in Idle Banter where I have explained things from John and my own point of view, with a copy of the PM that was sent to Matt's Yokes that has started all this off.

Here it is

http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=158686

Can we keep the discussion should you wish to in one place please.

I.e in the Idle Banter thread.

maviczap, has taken me up on the offer of free footrest plates for the Curvy SV650 (i believe its a curvy he has?)

So only need dims for the Pointy SV650 now, not sure on model year changes? If there is no difference between all models then i wont need them but it would seem there is a lot of confusion and different answers to this question so we need solid evidence either way.

My offer to Matt is doing my little bit to support UK based manufacturers/talent and trying to ensure that he keeps in business and also giving us discount here.

I have my own selfish reasons for doing this :smt019

But if we don't support UK business, then everything will end up being produced in China and the Far East, and will continue arrive on massive ships which sail past my office window on a daily basis. They arrive full and sail empty.

I can see Admins point of view, so I'm not neccessarly agreeing with Matt, but I can also see where he's coming from

Think Blitish :-D

Matt - which year pointy do you need help with? I'm on a 2010 and can do the cardboard templatey / measurey thingie for you if you PM me to tell me exactly what you need, but unfortunately wouldn't be able to make a trip up to you anytime soon!

distance between footpeg holder mounting holes is 56.0mm. They are M8 clearance holes.

Main difference to watch out for is that the K3 pointy had a slightly higher rearsubframe, it was lowered on later model pointies K4 onwards. This has the effect of bringing the top of the rear master cylinder closer to the subframe/plastics when you raise the footpegs.

flymo
15-10-10, 01:31 PM
Maviczap and flymo, thanks for that. Leave it with me and i will sort out a design, maviczap can you send me the old ones you have.

Flymo, is it 56mm on the pointy as maviczap has sorted the curvy for me.

2 Members are getting free plates. Thanks

I will PM you when done

Case closed!

Yes, measured on a K3. The hole spacing is the same for all models of pointy but as I said the rear subframe is in a lower position from K4 onwards. The K3 had a unique subframe.

matt went out lastnight to measure the sizes for the thou and noticed something
due to the thou having duel zausts there imho is an issue using plates cos of the routeing of the pipes,
id say it would be best if i brought the bike to you for you to work out a way around the problem

DP the plates I had were for 650 & the thou, so there shouldn't be any issue.

Might be the case if you've got non standard link pipes like I have

davepreston
15-10-10, 03:23 PM
no mate the thou is a bolt on zaust change so standard pipeing on mine , but there is a space issue with moving the lever assembly due to the way the zaust is routed under and then behind the assembly

best pic i could find
see how close the pipe runs to the rear of the assembly, its more obvious on the left hand side
