After selling my CRF i started lookin hard for my new dirt toy. A long drive and a bit of haggling later this came home with me....

'09 EXC 530 wiv loadsa bling and few mods

After a quick blast all i can say is....HOLY $H1T! Slightly scary! Phenomenal amount of grunt and zero grip on tarmac wiv those knobblies (powersliding fun) The end can is coming off and being stored till i get some SM wheels sometime next year. Makes my CRF450X feel like a scooter. Chavtastic orange machine! All i need now is an Astra. No wait...already have one of those (its the missus's car tho honestly)

Just need to get it dirrrttty

Nice, why did get rid of the CRF again?
Do you mind if i ask how much for something like the KTM you've just bought?

You'll be able to come on the orgs dirt bike /camping weekend next year then !!

I mainly sold the CRF coz it was never used of road and it would of been a shame to tarnish it. Iit was a five year old bike so would have de-valued a fair bit had i covered it in dings etc. It really was mint, the first guy to see it bought it (a honda mechanic  )

The ktm has boot rub etc all associated with off road use so i dont mind getting it dutty. That and they dont de-value too much having been in the dirt. They hold their money so well, loadsa '05 450 bikes goin for 3k, whereas i paid 4k for the '09 with just 20 hours on it. The previous owner just threw money at it. He even gave me a new spare set of tyres even tho the ones on there hadnt been used yet as well as loadsa other bits. (He even threw in a motion sensor alarm for my garage)

Was fun gettin it in my vw caddy tho

Is there a link for this off-road thingy you mentioned? Cant find it!

Cheers for all your comments guys

Very nice! Forget the supermoto wheels and use the bike for what it was intended ;)

It hasn't been born yet, it's still an itch in Specialone's pants. It will happen though, keep your eyes peeled.

Actually, slightly on topic...depending on how you look at it...

I quite fancy a go off roading...talked about it with GG before. What kinda bike would be ideal to start off with?

Posing round town wearing a baseball cap backwards and a shellsuit?!

Corrected for ya  Besides, owning a KTM in itself is chav enough come slicks or knobblies!

Seriously, the most fun ive ever had on 2 wheels is on a supermoto! Rocket powered BMX! More fun than my street triple and....i can destroy most sportsbikes on the B roads. In fact most of the roads round here are ideal for SM (devon)

@ MBK, im 6.1 and im on tip-toes on that! Theres plenty of shorter springs and lowering shizzle available tho like all bikes. One thing off-road does is keep ya fit. (or im just unfit, or both  )

Where abouts are you in the southwest then?

I'm thinking of getting a few of the lads over to salisbury again...

Near Barnstable mate. Im sure you would av a right laugh watching me try hang on to the ktm. And i do mean try, complete novice an all that. Going to join the TRF at the weekend and get some overlays and downloads for the roadangel, apparently theres over 1100 greenlanes in devon alone. Tis why i bought it.

you dont ride the trails at the back of snapper woods then do you?

Amplimator
12-10-10, 04:06 PM
In the 3 days ive been doing it i havent come across it :p Never even heard of snapper woods. Wereabouts is that? Are the lanes any good? If i can find them i will give em a go!

speedplay
12-10-10, 04:11 PM
Go out of barnstaple, up bear street and out past gorwell.

snapper is on the left, called "collard bridge" and theres loads of trails out there (including a dh course we built years ago) if you follow the main road a bit further it goes into a tight right hander and theres a great byway on the bend (right hand side).
That will take you up over the hill and into goodleigh, go down stenny bridge (on the left when you come into the village) and youll drop down the valley and across to Gunn....

speedplay
12-10-10, 04:12 PM
theres also spreacombe quarry out past the foxhunters towards mullacot cross from braunton too....;)

See the Madlanders Megathread for some good tips on how to find the routes. I've mapped a lot of Warwickshire, all of Northamptonshire and some of Bedfordshire and Leicestershire, without joining the TRF.

I've just been offered a contract down there but dont fancy working in frankmarsh and forches for a year:(

Im actually in bideford mate. Im not a local yokel (not got six fingers or webbed feet) as im originally from Ipswich. TBH im not sure whats worse. I met the missus on tinternet and she persuaded me to give up the family biz and move away 4 years ago and ive never looked back. Much more relaxed down here...people stop and speak to you in the street whereas in Ipswich if someone stops its to mug you or at least hurl abuse at you.

As for the contract mate, if it pays right id go anywhere. Yup anywhere!

sort of defeats the object of moving away from Barnstaple to here if I'm going to go back there to work though!

Having been to Bideford I agree with you, lovely place and having lived in Ipswich nearly all my life, then I double agree with you about what its like

Ipswich used to be a nice town, feck all trouble, but now just full of headbangers. Luckily I live in Felixstowe by the sea, not quite as nice as Bideford, but alright for my kids. My brother had the sense to send his kids to school in Holbrook

If you walk round Ipswich you'll hear lots of foreigners, Polish, Latvian, Russians etc.

Thinks you should drop the karting idea and get another orange toy mebe? Can always get some SM wheels later on, best of both worlds ;)

 And you said mine was 'a bit much'! Mine was 4k, its an '09 with 700 miles on it. Then i paid £400 for the SM wheels with discs/sprocket, SM front fender, brembo carrier and KTM wheel sliders. £190 a year fully comp too (it went up £30 this year....nm eh)

Look around theres cheaper out there ;)

I miss my little KTM. That is lovely. When I get a job, I really want to get back into MX (can't stretch to it on a PhD fund). I always wanted a KX250 back in the day. Now I want a KTM again, but something a bit bigger than my SX125. used to love landing a jump on the rear wheel and blasting of, front still aloft past the spectators (yeah I know, but I was only a kid).
