Cheap half-way house solution - take the grab rail off.

Will leave gaps tho...

Noooooo don't just take the rail off. Get the seat cowl.
I managed to get one for £40 brand new off ebay instead of the £90-odd dealer price.

Get the seat cowl. That is all ;)

They don't actually do anything... spend your money on petrol!

And don't take the grabrail off. They make it harder to turn around on the sidestand.

I think I'll just buy the seat cowl and fit it, just as the bike looks ATM.
It's like £136ish on the Suzuki website :/

Both excellent pieces of advice.

I now have to have a lie down after agreeing with Chris. Twice.

If you have an SRAD then maybe there is some point to one as you can probably fit a fridge or some spare tyres inside ;)

It does enable you to get more spares/tools/biscuits/animals under the seat and it does look prettier. I don't know what year your bike is or where the tool kit lives but on my K3 the tool kit fitted perfectly wedged inside the cowl rather than under the seat. I understand the newer pointies have the tool kit elsewhere so that'd just be silly to move it.

Having a cowl and no grab rail makes it just a little riskier when putting the bike on a paddock stand.

I just picked a mint one up for my bike for £25 posted on fleabay. Grabrail had to come off to make room for the topbox anyway (oh the shame).

And when you need to balance the bike to get it on & off a padock stand.

I honestly dont see why people have issues balancing an sv to get it onto a paddock stand?

Having issues and being slightly more tricky are pretty different things.

It's clearly not as easy to put a bike on a rear paddock stand without the grab rail as it is with the grab rail still fitted. That is unless you have never used the grabrail or have unusually sticky hands or are gheckos.

I guess I've never used the grab rail. It was gone long before I got a paddock stand.

He's got a point you know, put my grab rail back on a few weeks back to take the misses pillion and I'm yet to take it back off just because it makes chucking it around much easier.

Check price with dealer - was quoted £93 last week. But watch eBay got one for £40.00 from Saltire Suzuki. Only problem is you usually don't get blanking panel and spacers when bought off EBay.

me to seat cowl every time on every bike

mikerj

I had a seat cowl, but took it off and refitted the seat as the grab handle is so useful for moving my bike (and a grab handle fitted with a cowl looks a bit silly!).

If the cowl had given any more space under the seat I might have been more inclined to keep it on, but on a pointy at least it makes virtually no difference.

One thing that i will add to this is, it don't take much to swap between the two options! just turn the key and pop the cowl off, and use the large space that is now there to grab onto whilst putting on the paddock!
Then pop the cowl back on.

Simples!

not necessarily, im able to sit further back with the seat cowl on rather than the seat so prefer to have the seat cowl on.

also theres no harm in making "my" bike look good "to me" you have done the same just with gaffer tape zip ties and matt black paint :D
