Yes, we don't mind people who ride pointies, but they must keep their ugly bike out of sight

Please avoid:

Friday 3 to Tuesday 7 June: England v. Sri Lanka

Thursday 21 to Monday 25 July: England v. India

As I have to work then and absolutely cannot get out of it.

I want to be Ginger Spice this time - FGO take note!

I can't find a bunkhouse/similar in Wem (where I'm basing my proposal) as it is er a bit rural BUT the campsite is also a large caravan site and they hire out statics for this purpose.

Is this acceptable.

Also there is some B&B nearby in Wem but it's only a small place and I'd need to know likely numbers.

Awaiting a return email from the site manager.

Si, it's a mobile home thing.

I'm putting together the final bits and pieces this weekend, I'll hop up there and take some more pics, of the site and of the general area.

I will be submitting very soon:D

Is the protocol to PM it to Messie first, or to put it on the open site?????

Fast group and a slow group.

orose
06-12-10, 12:40 PM
I presume I can pencil you down for the slow group then, can I...

Route I have in mind won't need it, and it'll be more likely that those on full-fat sportsbikes will need to learn how to use their clutches and their eyes than their throttles.

neio79

Fast group if there was one. Its highly unlikley i will come. I do find riding is such big groups of mixed ability highly frustrating.

Although if any AR had more than one paced group it would make it 100% more appealing, or even just a few groups to split things up a bit, cut out the bunching up etc.

Say group set offs. 30 min appart? This after all is a Dream wish list for an AR.

Generally speaking the AR is now more about the socialising than the ride. Although the ride is still a big part of the show. But if that sort of ride was not your bag there is also quite often a secondary ride on the Sunday for those wanting something a bit more spirited. Don't know if this is being considered this time or not.

orose
06-12-10, 01:55 PM
For me, the brief I've been working to is that someone should be able to rock up on the Friday on a restricted SV after passing their test in the morning and not feel too uncomfortable while we're out. Failing a nicer way of describing it, that should be the highest barrier to entry.

Messie
06-12-10, 05:43 PM
I agree with both of the previous two comments.
The rideout itself is fun in its own way, but is not the best ride in the world as far as speed and blasting around is concerned. I think Orose sums up the standard perfectly.

In addition, there are many, many ways to enjoy riding your bike. The AR is just one of them

Gabriel2k
06-12-10, 09:16 PM
I find it just as much fun having a "slow" rideout with a big group as having a "fast" one, its all about the camaraderie!

dizzyblonde
08-12-10, 09:23 PM
There won't be a fire at this AR. I very much doubt the site owner would be happy with it.
Although I seem to remember sitting next to a rather toasty huge BBQ thing last time, with living flame.

At Wem they were happy as long as it was off of the ground, so a farmer friend was going to lend me his digger bucket. We hadn't yet worked out how to support it when the good folk of the org decided nay.

An ice aream shop that sells mint Cornettos.

For Ewan McGregor to announce that he's bored riding with Charley and would much rather come to the AR11 with me as his pillion. (You did say this was a wish list didn't you Sal?)

Here is a fact for you all; you more likely to get a flat on roads you use everyday of the week, as you know where to avoid on road position etc.. and you'll hit spread crap from a waggon or a wide turn bringing into the road line

I just wanted to know what the limits were... I'd recommend against going too deep into the hip flask though, just in case ;)

More seriously, what level of cuisine are people thinking they might want? Michelin stars are probably off the menu, but a sit-down dinner is an option. I'm used to rally food, so a greasy midnight burger or two is all I need... sometimes though, it's nice to have more.

31-01-11, 07:12 AM
as far as sustenance is concerned I'd say, Friday evening; each to their own, Saturday B/fast; be nice if something was available but the little chef is just down the road, Saturday Evening BBQ of some description, Sunday morning; as Saturday.

A nice touch is if we could have a power point with a kettle for making a brew.

Cheers Mark.

31-01-11, 10:43 AM
When I first went on the recce to the site, we had a chat briefly about perhaps being able to get them to cater for breakfast before Saturdays rideout, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to go into that further...something along the lines of a brew n bacon buttie to get us started?

There are many many restaurants and eateries in Settle open until 10pm on Friday and Saturday, I'm more likely to go off with Peg and have a meal together early on, then come back and sink a bottle of whisky!
I must admit, Soulkiss and Gordon did a good show for AR08. With BBQs though, there never seems to be enough to go round, as in AR09 with the hog roast, and AR07 here in Austwick. Unfortunately the site owner is not keen on a catering van, as they do catering onsite.
This really does need looking into further....when the bloody weather warms up and I can get up there on a bike!

Mark, I'm hoping we get one of the fields with powerpoints, if not we've already got two bunkhouses!

timwilky
31-01-11, 11:01 AM
A friend of my daughters is now executive chef at some place in Kirby Lonsdale, so Friday night I may be tempted to bypass the bridge butty van (Assuming it is still open) and go for some real posh nosh. But that means wife/car...

Sod it I may just end up camping after all.

I guess food is a funny thing for an AR. But unless it is pub grub, I cannot see many restaurants being happy with leather clad bikers disturbing their tranquil Friday night.

Did I remember right last time we were there we could not use the bar on the Saturday

Oh as you know I come fully prepared my love, I'll have my meths burner for my morning brew; caffeine/ nicotine and various other drugs are required to get me going first thing; but it was useful to have boiling water for others as I recall.

Cheers Mark.

Actually, at the end there was plenty left over - the problem is getting it out fast enough at the start as you are looking at a while before the 1st batch is good to go.

The plans I have in mind has a big pot o chilli/curry as well as the BBQ involved, possibly the chilli/curry being a Veggie option.

I'm not sure, twas a long time ago. BUT if it was the case, its most likely because it was 'bought' for the night as a private venue. We were told that we could book the bar for a fee, if we wanted it for sole use, but I said, that was a bit mean as theres other people than ourselves camping there.

As for the restaurants being funny towards bikers wanting to use their places.....they could be, but if they don't want my business I'll just go somewhere that loves the smell of my money instead:p

Reeder......no to you as well.

Is that also a campsite rule? Nothing on their website to say that. After my last experience of Supervox opening a bottle of Soulkisses's turbo ginger beer next to me I had better wear my waterproofs all evening as a rather sticky wet t-shirt contest may otherwise be unavoidable.
