Just launched our new online shop for work, nothing at all to do with bikes, so mods please move if needs be!
I know there are a few webby minded bods on here, so if anyone has any feedback (good or bad, I can take it [-o<) before we really start pushing it, that'd be great!
It's xxx - Sorry, 'org link love has expired!

Dont like your choice of font, it renders very badly, looks malformed even, its just too blocky...
And the Code when you view source - wheres the indentation for easy readability?
Also with that javascript it doesnt work well in Lynx
:p
Only serious one is the font, I think it looks clumsy and ugly, the layout etc however is fine :)
James, that site's excellent.
I'm not at all webby minded but I buy loads of stuff online and that site was a doddle for me to navigate. Looks professional but comes across as very personable rather than corporate with nice wee bits of humour hidden in some of the product descriptions. I like the fact you go straight to the products but all the "About Us" stuff is in the background if I want to look at it.
Registration, shopping basket and checkout are all very straightforward (although I stopped short of paying).
Nice work.

It's Clark Forest - arborist, chainsaw, forestry & garden supplies (http://www.clarkforest.com)
Cheers in advance folks
JamesIt seems to run ok in ie6...hmmm, chainsaws
The photo of Clark (as in 'Ask Clark') could do with improvement, like a smile.
Soulkiss's point on the font is good - very clumpy, not easy on the eye.
And how dare you be closed Sundays:D
Easy to navigate, nice gentle humour:D

You should have silkolene comp 2 in the oils section... might be complete overkill but it smells lovely!

Flamin eck, what's up with me agreeing with SK.
Fonts are deffo poo.
Lynx, well I guess the is only him and me ever likely to use lynx. (browser from a terminal, no gui rendering for you people too lazy to learn a command line interface)
and yes the source is badly laid out. But as it is ASP, nobody in their right mind would want to rip it.

Out of interest, those that don't like the fonts, what browser are you guys using? I'm guessing Tim & SK are on Lynx, what about you Ed?
Cheers

Opera and Firefox on Windows7 and XP
Forget the lynx thing, that was just a techie joke, mainly complaining about the fact that no-one just uses HTML any more - I dont even hve lynx installed anywhere these days :)

Firefox on Fedora and/or XP.
I still do use lynx, after I had ssh'd onto our really techies systems (serious hi end engineers, not computer nerds) who moan that web based stuff isn't working.

I like the layout. It's unoriginal and very simple, but clean and easy to navigate.
Looks like some SEO has been done, although I would question the decision to put all the navigation code ahead of the main page body. There should at least be a "skip to content" link for screen readers, although this may or may not help SEO.
The text in the left nav panel looks too bold to me. "Black" weight fonts work well as headlines but not so well when trying to read multiple lines.
I would rethink the text in images as well: On the "Chainsaw" page, there are boxes titled "Chainsaw Boots" and "Search by Brand". The text in these boxes is an image. This fails on two counts: the text is not machine-readable (it has alt text, but search engines don't give this the same semantic weight), and because of the compression and low resolution of images, the text looks blocky. Normal text is vector artwork and therefore always looks smooth.

I agree, instantly disliked the bold font, take the bold off and it will look better immediately.
I will also show your site to my local tree surgeon who has not long set up his own business :-)

Hi again all, I've got another site that I could use some feedback on please if you didn't mind awfully?! Thought I'd drop it onto the end of this thread, rather than pollute the 'Org with a new one.
Your feedback for my old employer's site (the less said about them, the better) was great, and was a great help... More of the same again would be ace, so many thanks in advance.
This one's for an online magazine for Mums, babies - all that kinda stuff.
Help for Parents - Mindful Mum (http://www.mindfulmum.co.uk)
First impressions - what do you like, dislike? I'm neither the designer nor the content writer, I'm trying to help them make it more user friendly and ultimately, more popular.
For the fellow geeks among us, there are a few techie problems I keep finding, be interested to know if you've spotted any too.
All feedback, good or bad, very much welcomed.
Cheers folks,
JM

Nice clean colour scheme and fonts. Personally for me, too much going on in the middle though.

agreed, it's just slightly too hard to take it all in at a glance. Looks good though. It also took for-fecking ever to load for me too (the site not just the content in the center) tried other sites while I was waiting for it and they'd loaded before it had...just something (probably nothing) to bare in mind.
