Winter warrior- DR350

Just picked up a DR for winter transport and green laning. Needs a bit of work to get it through an MOT cos it's been used off road. Wondering if the org could help with a couple of things, afer all it is kind of half an SV...

Can't work out where to fit the battery, the only place I can think it would fit would be under the rear mudguard but it'll get a pasting from road salt and mud. Anyone know where it's supposed to go?

Need some indicators, don't care how big/ugly/tatty they are or what bike theyre off. Anyone got some kicking about? Dirt cheap only, unless theyre free :mrgreen:

Regulator missing, dont suppose anyones got one of those.

One other possible issue is the can, its about 8 inches long and it sounds F-ing great, pops and bangs like anything on the overrun. Bearing that in mind anyone know a "good" place for MOTs in the Hinckley area? ;)
Or any tips for bodging some kind of tempory baffle in place?

You dont need indicators, hand signals will do just fine! In fact, unless your riding at night stuff all the extra leccy junk just get a daytime MOT. All the extra weight will only slow you down even more (it is a DR350 after all :rolleyes: )

I would service the sussies tho it looks like its been used for its intended purposes and check/grease replace any bearings (cheap as chips).

BBadger is doing a superb job of rebuilding one HERE (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=157478), hes the man to ask about leccy parts and locations if you really wanna go that route ;)

Aye looks much better too without all the pansy road stuff but unfortunatley in winter I'm up for work before the sun is and sometimes still there after the buggers gone to bed.

Suspension etc is fine for now, on a tight budget so dont want to start poking around yet. For now, as long as it gets me around I'm happy

No such thing as a daytime MOT anymore.

If you have no lights etc, they just mark it as an advisory.

I dont know of anywhere in hinkley for MOT but theres a great place in Northampton thats "offroad" minded ;)

As for the can, pop one end off and have a look at what the packing is like in there....if there is any;)

I too have heard that, but after *straining my brain hard trying to understand my local MOT guy he said that if the bike didnt come out the factory with them they wont mark as an advisory because the vehicle never had them as standard, but if defective or removed then an advisory it is :confused: I im sure someone in the know will put me right shortly

Im no expert by any means, advisory or not tis common sense not to ride in the dark with no lights ;)

Its a grey area I think.
At one time a bike with no lights got a daytime MOT but now just advised not to ride in the dark...:confused:
I know if theres no pillion pegs you dont need indicators (which sounds stupid too).
I think they tried to simplify the MOT system and just ended up confusing more people in the long run!

Paid £500. Bit steep really as it needs work but I've been looking for one for ages and didnt want to end up riding a CB500 or a Bike What Cannot Be Named for the winter. Hope its not toooo slow. :smt015 Ah well.

I have a DR 600 (well 2 actually) and am hoping to make one good bike out of them for winter hack and green laning! Keep us all updated with this one :D

Was considering a DR600, would have been a better choice for the road but then i'd probably also have broken my little twiglet legs trying to start it so probably for the best!

MJC :) didn't I just buy your sv yesterday? Ran really well on the way home, alot quicker than my last one, although this was expected as its full power.

Good luck with the dr350, hopefully that exhaust passed MOT ;)
