I'm looking into modding a subframe which will need a bit of adjustment and welding done to the mounts etc.

As i've just got it in the post and discovered it's alloy, am i right it will need to be TIG'd, yeah?

This could have fecked up my grand plans to getting it done on the cheap...

You don't say what the alloy is. But I am guessing you mean your subframe is an aluminium alloy. Therefore it is more than just tig, It also needs to be an A/C machine with an argon gas shield for welding aluminium which are more expensive if you intended to buy a tig welder.

Sorry, yes aluminium alloy. If it had been steel I could have had a mate do the work, but not this.

Hmmm, will need to ring the local fabrication guy and see if he can take it on. Had heard he is retiring tho so could have to scrap it altogether. :(

I can weld ali. Would be happy to do it for a small fee if you can get it to me? Would need detailed info on what you need doing though?

You can MIG alloy, but the results are nowhere near as neat as a TIG - at least not when I've tried it!
