cba explaining the full setup, but there's 2 projectors feeding into a VGA crash switch (aka data transfer switch), then from the crash switch out to the projector at the back of the stage set.

One of the laptops is a bit older and is working perfectly, but the newer samsung keeps automatically adjusting and re-adjusting the resolution everytime the switch is turned from laptop a to laptop b and back again - the jist of it is that switching from laptop B to A, the transition on the screen is basically seamless, but then back to laptop b takes a few seconds while it re-activates the VGA output/adjusts resolution and causes the project to display 'no signal' for 2 or 3 seconds - it's not really what we're after in front of 200 delegates..

any ideas how to stop this shiz? tia

p.s. we normally use a kramer video switcher which is ACE (can freeze the signal, picture in picture etc.) but it's away for repair after some numpty shafted half of the vga connections

Try making the output the primary output, not the secondary which may force it to behave and possibly give you more control options. You sound clued up so I'm sure you've tried using different resoltions and software settings. Conversely. it may be the projector that's doing it, try turning off auto adjust on the projector or similar. Make sure both PC's are set to same res, refresh rate, fullscreen and anything else you can match up.

You could also try running one pc on video output if it's got one, then switching input with the projector remote instead of the crash box, if it's a good projector, it might do that quite well.

cheers arena :) first session was the only session where holding slides and speakers' ppt's wouldn't link together properly on laptop A so used laptop b to run holding slides until the right moment before switching to A until the rest of the session... bit of a crude setup compared to what we usually use but to the audience it was seamless...

Never thought of making it primary... it could well be the projector auto adjusting but since the first laptop is acting fine I'm guessing it's the newer samsung trying to be clever and sort everything out for me (it's a big mitsubishi thing - can't remember the exact model).. Great for domestic use when your old man can't seem to get the holiday photos to display on the tv for some reason (fn. and f# button!!!) but pita when you've got ppt's to link and mics to balance before delegates start taking their seats!

Since your problem is solved, can I just pat you on the back for actually bothering to test all your equipment works before the presentation starts. I'm not above walking out in disgust at the contempt being shown for the audience by a presenter who spends upwards of 20 minutes trying to get the projector/laptop/DVD player to work because they couldn't be bothered checking it all beforehand.

the only speaking I did in front of the delegates today was "Good morning, welcome along to this sound check, check one, check two, check mic check..." etc.

I'm running the sound/powerpoint etc. on the conference - if I didn't test the equipment before hand I might well end up deep doo doo :)
