Yesterday, I made some chocolate mousse. 4 ingredients, 4 minutes and it's done. I wanted to see how many ingredients shop bought mousses had though and was genuinely shocked.

The first had 14 ingredients, including pork derivatives and the worst had...36 ingredients for just a simple chocolate mousse.

Onto pizza and I only checked the thin crust plain cheese pizzas (not three or four cheese, just the plain cheese & tomato) and I was even more shocked. Some had 30-50 ingredients but the worst had...67 ingredients. It's a pizza base, cheese and tomato.....it's shocking to me.

Make them at home, taste better, start to finish I can make pizza and cook it quicker than cooking a frozen one from the supermarket!

And the mousse is just daft. I've made mine and it's been fine in the fridge a week later!

Tell me about it... i have been on a diet and cutting back on sugar, mainly the starchy stuff... checking the ingredients list is quite scary really!

They have to list everything though, have you made a list of the incredients of the raw ingredients you use? If that makes sense LOL.

We're getting away from pre-made and packaged cr@p. We've had the odd failure but in the main the food is nicer, and probably better in so much as its not processed rubbish.

Last night I did a chicken/garlic/peppers stir fry from scratch, mega yummy, and oh so cheap - sadly the white wine bust the budget

well, my chocolate mousse is 100gdark chocolate, 300mlcream, 1 egg white and 50g caster sugar.

Pizza base is flour, water, olive oil, salt & sugar. Add your own base and topping ingredients....but I guarantee if you make then frsh at home, 60% of the ingredient list won't be preservatives and stabilisers!

example: Tomato, garlic, salt, pepper, oregano (base) chicken, mushrooms, mozzarella! That's 13 ingredients, all fresh....not 67.

I just hat ethe way animal fats and glutens are used in chocolate mousse.

i love making my own stuff instead of buying it, i oftenmake my own spag bol sauce, gravey etc.
1 thing i like making is a peppercorn sauce for steak, its simple Brandy, milk, peppercorns, garlic, corn flour.

i'm also tempted to turn the bottom of the garden into a veg patch after xmas but see how that goes.

I agree 67 is just an enormous amount of unnecesary ingredients and most of them will be preservatives. Just been looking at tescos for the raw ingredients and finding out what is in each product... for example.. plain chocolate contains: Organic Cocoa Mass,Organic Cocoa Butter ,Organic Fat-Reduced Cocoa Powder ,Organic Raw Cane Sugar ,Organic Vanilla Extract ,Organic Whole Milk Powder ,Emulsifier: Soya Lecithin ,Minimum Cocoa Solids 85%
So add that to the other ingredients of your mousse and you have 11... still much better than the added extras you mention below! Good job i'm on a diet as seeing what is in it (the pre-made products, not your food)has made me feel quite ill!! YUCK!!

I'm not aguing with you btw LOL... i just find it interesting what goes into food when you start picking it all apart.

I agree, there is no need for it.

Here you go... Cadbury Light Chocolate Mousse
Water,Concentrated skimmed milk ,Milk chocolate (5%) (Milk, Sugar, Cocoa mass, Cocoa butter, Vegetable fat, Emulsifier (E442), Flavourings) ,Fructose ,Fat reduced cocoa ,Maltodextrin ,Pork gelatine ,Dextrose ,Emulsifiers (E472b, E471) ,Vegetable oil ,Stabilisers (E410, E412, E415) ,Sweeteners (Acesulfame K, Aspartame) ,Contains a source of Phenylalanine.
YUCK YUCK YUCK!

Seriously though, pork fat in chocolate mousse? Yuk...

I can't honestly say I'm that strict about knowing what goes in my food though - I ate a doner kebab on Saturday!

I'm going to have to try your pizza recipe by the way GG, looks great! :D

I'm too lazy + too tired to make my own food. Buying in a packet and sticking it in the oven is 1000 times more convinient, even if it is 1000 times more unhealthy :)
