Seeing as the very dissatisfied with the clubs ambition Mr Rooney has just signed a new 5 year contract, was all his recent shenanigans simply posturing to maximise the offers/inducements to stay put?

Or even sceptical me could see an MUFC advantage in that if he is after out. his value to the club and therefore transfer fee would be far higher with 5 years remaining than the current 18 months.

Still who would want to work for an American owned company with a nasty bad tempered Scot as your line manager? Wayne needs all the money he can get. those Manchester tarts don't come cheap

Perhaps he'll need the extra wonga to keep Coleen quiet after his extra nightime activities :-D

What an anticlimax.

Think that was also part of the problem, not the anti part ;)

Haha.

If I was that rich and famous I would actually make people pay to sleep with me. Not the other way round.

there is the webster rule (i think its called that) where a player could buy out the final year of his contract for a nominal fee, in rooneys case that would be 5 million, so MU are offering him the world to protect the 30+ million transfer fee they would get for selling him in contract, after all getting 5 million back for a player you spent 28 million on even a yank could tell was bad buisness

180 grand a week for the next five years...

Personally I still think he'll be on his way, but it means that Manyoo get their full transfer money, he can't buy himself out and gets a bit more wedge too.

I find myself increasingly unable to get interested in football - bunch of millionaires kicking a ball around - my interest is not quite dead yet, but it gets more so all the time for me

I remember the times when players were rewarded with new contracts for outstanding seasons or consistent form, the stupid fat big eared w4nker has been out form for months, he may have signed a contract but I'm pretty sure Madrid will / have been tapping him up.

Should have took money off him not give him more, IMO man u wouldn't br that bad off if he went, there is plenty of top notch strikers in europe that would give their right arm to play for them.

Bearing in mind that I dont like football, dont know anything about it and am just adding 2p in here....

Why is it that clubs are spending all this money on essentially old players, why arent they taking the chances on the new stock of youth coming through the ranks.

That way club overheads would be kept down, the big players sold on for a pretty penny and new blood comes through and the clubs keep getting the big money for the transfer fees.

Yes, Wayne strikes me as a shrewd negotiator. :-k

It's not about the player and the club anymore it's the agent and the club.

I expect if it was down to Wayne himself he'd still be playing for Everton on 30k a week and be happy.

Problem is when you have someone breathing down your neck every five minutes that you are worth more than you are getting you start to believe it, and of course the agent is only interested in his cut not what's best for the player, the club or the game as a whole.

I predicted this ages ago, he didnt really have any real alternative. Im sure everyone wants to get as much cash as they can, he is overated though.

Whine Rooney isn't old...... he's circa 24.

Personally, I hope he's sold in January.

as someone said before this is all down to fergie. he has done what he needs to, to protect man uniteds interest. he had a year or so left on his contract, and as was said the 'webster' ruling now means he could buy himself out of this contract. in this case Rooney could spend £5mil and see himself on his way to any other club.

the club 'buying' him could then offer him a ridiculous wage because they don't need to pay a signing fee. so they get a £30+ mil player for free.

so fergie signing him up to a nice 5year contract, Rooney feels happy he's getting a few quid more a week. now if fergie decides he's for sale in january any club needs to spend top money to but him, or Rooney now needs to buy out his own contract at prob £30mil ish.

good bit of work by fergie and his team, he is one of 'the best managers in the world for a reason!!

my wife works at nhs pensions and payroll and she interestingly pointed out in disgust that what mr. rooney is getting paid annually could finance 400 nurses in our cash stricken hospitals, shockingly distastful.

yeah but bear in mind he looses 40/50% of his salary back to the inland revenue! do the people in charge of the nhs need 6 figure salaries too?

footballers make enough money for there clubs and are rewarded for this.
