R1 was in for a service and I got a loan bike. New Honda VFR1200. An object lesson in how to totally disguise 170bhp. Booooooor-riiiiiing.

Bet it's a good ride for real long distance stuff though...

Saw one in the flesh on the road for the first time today. Looked pretty weird actually.

It would not be on my shopping list.

The R1, now that's a different matter:D

18.5L fuel tank is a bit of a joke, you're going to be refuelling every 120mls or so, not exactly "touring" metal.

You need at least a 22L tank with a lump like that

I prefer the look of the VFR800... And, I've gotten over 220 miles out of a tank before thanks to V-Tech. And it pulls like nothing I've ever ridden before! (An SV650, and 125 Shadow)

Really? Didn't know that. Doh!

It's like Suzuki putting a 17l tank on the SV1000.

Dumb. Really dumb.

Weird not having a gear lever, I wouldn't like the whole changing gear on the handlebars, would take some getting used to! But i suppose if your purely touring then may make sense...

Depends, they do two models VFR1200 with manual transmission and VFR1200 Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), a lot of positive reviews from customers at work, but its a tad expensive at 13 odd grand 1k more than the standard version

Is there a vid or something on how that works? The DCT version?

+1

They look better in pics than they do live for me.
The big gaps in the front fairing make it look as if:
a. it's been crashed
b. it's missing some plastic bits
c. it's supposed to be some sort of artsy prototype that's not finished

Hope it's really functional as it's not really pretty close up.

I wonder if you felt it was boring cos they have restricted the performance in the lower gears? (Like the first coupla years of zzr14's)

"For your safety"

I think it looks a lot better in the flesh than the pictures, after reading up on my online course about it those gaps in the fairing are for stabilty and ****, still got quite a bit to read up on it but its got some pretty nifty kit on it

The new VFR has lots of safety features though

Bet it even has a system to prevent you riding into the bike in front of you...

:p

Yeah, but it's SOOO dull, I'd probably do it on purpose to relieve the boredom.

PS. Up yours ugly.

Doesn't look nearly as odd as the DN-01*. But the Honda designers do seem to be in a strange place with these bikes at the moment- it's like they are designing what the future looked like in the 80s.

* Which, strangely, looks a little better in the flesh.

Though a 1000cc automatic V-Twin super-scooter. It's like a cruiser that's had it's balls removed and then been dressed up in PVC.

No thanks... Honda just seem to have lost it!

What they needed to do is make a sporty tourer (Sprint ST/VFR 750/800) style with a 1L V4 about 120-140bhp and they would have been onto a winner... Not a fat ar$e do nothing bike. Oh well.
