I've been registered with a forum for a while now for my car, which is a 82 mercedes e280 (w123) http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?

everyone on there is really great, but motorbikes dont really get much of a mention, one of the members has branched off to create http://retrobikes.proboards.com/index.cgi

but its pretty quiet at the mo, if any of you are into retro/classic motorbikes, you should come register and say hello, and we can all provide some useful information to each other..

Sorry if this kind of thread aint allowed, feel free to delete it, its not my forum, i just like classic bikes too, and i'm sure people might benefit from it, like i say, just delete it if its not allowed

have some pictures to make it more relevant:

I'd definitely have that Katana either the 1000 or the 1100

I'd like a GPz900, always hankered after one, plus my ultimate dream an original Ducati 900ss or Hailwood Replica

The most I've come to classic/retro biking was when I owned and drove this:
http://w1.bikepics.com/pics/2005/09/20/bikepics-432631-800.jpg
Air cooled Yamaha RD125 parallel twin - After rebuilding the engine to get the main bearings sorted.
Got me through my test.

My dad had a pop up headlight Katana, was very cool at the time, probably worth loads now.

These days he has two classic bikes. A fully concourse showroom condition Kawasaki Z900, and most recently a just as spotless Honda CBX-Z 6 cylinder. No fancy extras, just as they were at the showroom. Just spent over £1k on original exhausts eeeeeeek. Even had to had a regulator sent directly (made for him) from a top man in Japan at Kawasaki.

He'll take them to shows and always seems to walk away with a prize

He recently lead the annual CBX owners club on a rideout (people from all over the world) and had a picture taken which is going to be featured in a CBX book thats currently being written. He's a happy chappy to say the least. I was due to ride the 6 this year, but no time so want to ride that next year.

I don't have any online pics of his CBX, but one for reference...

Not my cup of tea both bikes, but the Z900 was his dream bike as a lad, and they are his babies. That along with the Benelli Tornado LE (145 left in the world), and a big custom cruiser. LE is mine in his will (well not yet) Had to talk him out of selling the thing the git!

My era of futre classics includes these two bikes. Not classics yet, but they will be.

Straight tail.

And I still would love one to have in the house to stare at..

how old would you say qualifies, (and i dont mean insurance wise) as a classic. It could be classic and brand new really, like the new triumphs they are doing at the mo.

love that concours z900, very special, had a streetfighter mag which had a z1000 which had a gsxr1000 engine in upside forks etc, but looked really standard, loads of chrome, it was absolutley gorgous

That's an RD250F, not an RD125 twin. I can tell it's an F not an E by the dog-leg levers.

Gold star for the first person who notices quite a major difference on the below picture to the one I posted on the other page. One had a more modern style of something, so he had to swap it for the original older style of this thing... Gold star awaits.

No extra polishing like many people do, this is how it was from factory.

Oh, and both DO get ridden as well. CBX rideout was partly rainy so they go out in the rain if need be as well. Just very well looked after.

The brake calipers have migrated back to in front of the forks.

Daimo

Good spot. Indeed, earlier bikes form this year had the calipers mounted on the front, not the rear.

The Jap firms all had trouble making their bikes handle so they employed British engineers and top racers to help out.One of the improvements suggested by an ex Triumph factory rider was to stick the front brakes behind the forks, something completely normal now.
