Hi guys and Gals!
Been noticing for a while now (more since cold) that when i start the bike up in the morning when i sit on her and pick up from the side stand she keeps feeling like she wants to stall Even though the choke is still at least half way, i need to give her a quick blip on the throttle otherwise the engine just cuts out.
The little blip is all it needs, the she is fine, i can put her back on the side stand and pick back up no issues after that, just that first time.
Also happens if i do the same but roll her off the centre stand, if anything a little worse.
I noticed this being the case from centre stand when i first picked her up, but assumed that this was just because the jolt was shifting the fuel around in the carbs or lines or something along those lines (i am no mechanic) it just started struggling for fuel. so i just stopped starting her up whilst still on centre stand, But i cant see that this is the case with just moving from the side stand, otherwise every time i corner it would gasp for fuel!
Does it sound like something is wrong?
Cheers in advance

carb icing ?
i know nothing about it, all that i know is that i can happen in the cold and make the bike hard to start
doesn't sound like carb icing to me - although my experience of that was on a Bandit, which just refused to run unless you had the choke full out when it was in this condition
could be worth doing a precautionary check on fuel line/choke cable etc just to make sure something isn't blocked, gummed up or crimped I guess...

its not that it wont start, starts without a problem, and it would sit and idle without problem until fuel ran out, its only when i pick her up from the stand. it is that movement that causes the problem.
i do need to get a full service done at some point soon, so hopefully that will pick something up, but i dont really have the money at the mo, and as she is not due a service (would just ike to get it done out of piece of mind being that it has been sat in storage for so long) i am trying to put off!

I think a good service and give the battery a condition would cure that.
Try starting with the choke almost full in the slowly back it off over 30s and see if that helps it, in the meantime

it has a brand new battery that i fitted a week after getting it as the old one was shot, as for backing off the choke. I still cant get the hang of the quak choke, it is really sensitive compared to the SV's and i always seem too open it too much, it revs the tits off until i back the choke off first. so although i am not backing it off ocer 30s i am kinda doing that, shall i back it off slower then? would you say that me backing the choke off quick may be causing it?

It maybe a cause, it takes practice to work out the position I would learn the positions where certain revs are on it.
The way i do it with the SV is pull it so the engine kicks over at around 2.5-3k then reduce it to 2k after about 5s. just before your about to move it, push the choke out to where the hot idle would be.
Take the choke off then ride away when ready.
Thats roughly how i warm up the bike when the weather is like this. The other one is when you come to do your return journey (depending upon how cold) start with a little bit of choke on then take off before you ride

I agree completely, its just by pulling the choke to about half way, the second after the bike starts she revs up to about 4/5k, and 1/4 way the revs drop right down as if no choke is on and the engine nearly stalls, so i have very little movement to get it right,
Not like when i had the SV, i just cracked the choke right open, left it about 15 secs and i was able to almost drop the choke off completely.
Getting used then i suppose.

My ZZR does this. Just down to choke cable routing I think? I usually take the choke of before I get on anyway (no need for more than a few seconds in even the coldest weather) and give the throttle a blip as I mount the bike. It's not as it is meant to be but TBH it's not going to knacker your bike is it. I have just rebuilt the carbs so we shall see if it goes away when i put her back together.
