Interesting bit of footage that appears to show a woman speaking on a mobile in 1928:

Oh come one there has to be better explination for what is going on there, the whole idea just doesn't work for many reason.

the guy himself says "it cant be an am/fm radio because its obviously 1928".........then errr, WTF makes it possible that a mobile phone would be a more feasible explanation.

We look at behaviour in light of what we are familiar with, if we went back 30 years and were asked the same question I'm sure there would be other alternative suggestions made.

Interesting that just because the guy doesnt know what she is doing that he jumps to something totally irrational like time travel with mobile phones.

Here's a time line of hearing devices can be found here: http://beckerexhibits.wustl.edu/did/timeline/index.htm

From the film I'd say it's likely to be this one (circa 1928):

And the talking, she's just mumbling to her self as she's getting on a bit!

Case closed :)

Put it this way, if someone watched that footage in the 1920's they wouldnt be blown away with that behaviour would they? oh shes adjusting her hat pins whilst talking to herself - mad cow.

schizophrenia has been around a lot longer than mobile phones

Very true, she probably believes she needs her hearing aid to hear her inner voice

Much more believable that a time traveller........

I think that's the most likely explanation. I had searched for hearing aids but hadn't found anything that fit the bill quite so well. Perhaps she's not gone mad, but is just speaking to get a level for the volume.

Lots of cell towers around back then huh?

Back top the shops for some more tin foil...

I don't believe that it's time travel, but if we were to take that leap (a very large one granted) then we can assume that she has departed from some (probably distant) point in our future.

Surely we could then also safely assume (given technology has advanced far enough to achieve time travel) that a "mobile phone" in that era might be far enough advanced to not rely on cell towers? Could also be that she's speaking to someone in close proximity with a sort of walkie-talkie, or that the device may allow her to communicate across time.
