Quick quezzie for all you apple buffs - my boyfriend just bought an ipod classic which i sync'd to my laptop because thats where all his music was stored. It copied music over fine but when he then took the ipod home to download music from his own pc itunes wouldnt recognise the ipod.
I assume this is because it was sync'd to my laptop, so how do i delete it from my itunes so it can be registered to his?
Hope that makes sense...:p
Thanks, kj x

He just needs to
1. Install itunes on his laptop
2. Get all his music into itunes
3. Then plug his ipod into his laptop
When he does that he'll get a message "This Ipod is synch'd with a different itunes library, do you want to erase and synch it to the current library instead"
click yes and it'll synch all his music, but beware it will more than likely erase everything already on the ipod that came from your itunes library.
The only way to avoid this IIRC, is to login with your itunes account on his laptop and then it'll copy everything off the ipod into his itunes library and copy everything back onto the ipod again.
Will take ages if theres alot of music on there and I'm going from memory, and I havent had to do that for a while, so I could quite possibly be talking cobblers...

I tried to download music from my daughter-in-laws and I had a problem in that itunes can only be downloaded so many times[2-3 I think] and still haven't worked out how to do it so you is not the only one with a problem;)

You can just set the ipod to manual update. Meaning when you plug it into any computer you select the music ect you want to put onto the ipod and drag n drop.

Apart from manual is there any other way as I am talking about 1000+ tunes

I dont know if you can sync your ipod on multiple computers without erasing its contents each time.

itunes wouldnt recognise the ipod.
I would expect this to happen if your laptop was a Mac and he's running iTunes on Windows, as Windows can't read Mac-formatted iPods, so the iPod would need to be Windows formatted, which both Macs and Windows can read.
However, if something happened when he plugged his iPod in, but iTunes wouldn't sync and gave an error, what was the error?
itunes can only be downloaded so many times
You can download iTunes as many times as necessary (although some would say even once was too many *looks at SoulKiss*), so I guess your problem lies elsewhere. Again, details of error messages will help toward a diagnosis.

If you're trying to copy the actual music, it depends on what you're trying to copy them to and how you're doing it. Details!

Update - the problem is his pc, the usb ports aren't working!!
Ive just downloaded itunes onto my other laptop and its picked up his ipod straightaway.
The problem is that all of his music is downloaded from sources other than itunes (i know, tut tut!!) so 'transfer purchases' doesnt work.
As far as i can see im going to have to transfer his music via disc to his pc then when his usb ports are working properly itunes will pick up the music files on his pc and import them to his ituens library. Sound like a plan??
iTunes is the Devil.........
or it might be me just being a mong :0)
I don't get all the hate for iTunes! I've never had any trouble with it. I've got 2 iPhones (ones my brothers) synced to my laptop. just set them to manually update the music, all I need to do is drag and drop tunes as and when I want to. simples!

Jeff needs to check that his USB ports are enabled, my mate had a similar problem
Right click on 'My computer' icon
left click on 'properties' at the bottom
left Click on 'Hardware' tab
left Click on 'Device manager'
Click on + symbol on 'Universal serial bus connections'
Any that aren't working will have a red cross I think. Right click on any that are red and change to enable I think. Should change to a yellow tick if all is well.:thumright:
