Hello all,

I am looking to sell my 2001 SV650. It has around 18k on the clock and in general is in ok condition for the age and mileage, however the sump plug is proxy welded on as had a leak so needs a new sump. Have recently had new chain/sprokets and valve clearences. Have looked in biketrader and can see similar bikes for anything up to £1600 however how much should I ask for with the damaged sump? Or anyone got any offers?!

Cheers

Paid £1300 for mine, same age and mileage, that was in the summer, minus Sump issue but 1 scratched panel from a stationary drop.

You see the bikes advertised for £1600 but that doesnt mean they will sell for that price. I reckon around £1200

Hate to be a party-pooper, fromage mon ami, but isn't the sump actually the crankcase halves or am I missing summat? :(

It is indeed part of the engine case so cant be replaced like a normal sump.Having said that it could be machined out and helicoiled or similar but you need to factor in the cost and hassle of doing all that.If your bike is a nice example with no accident damage, few owners, service history to prove the mileage and good consumables it might attract reasonable money despite the problem.Otherwise Id say about £600 at this time of year.

Get it fixed then sell it, you will just be offered daft money for it as it is. There are enough examples of SV's for sale for people to walk away from yours and look at ones that don't need repairing

I agree, think it would put many potential buyers off. Even half decent curvies dont seem to be worth much nowadays, and im guessing that new sv`s for £4.5 K dont help matters.
