Hi All,

Newbie question sorry!

On my 650s k5, having a problem with the front suspension, every time I hit a bump at reasonable speed ( 60mph) , there's a awful bag off the top yoke, its ok on compression, but its seem to be on the return of the compression it gives the yoke a belt! its taken me for every to fine out what it is , in doing so I have done the following

1. upgrade the oil in the folks, and
2. Replace the bearing to a race bearing under instruction of 2 mechanic here.

But this has still not fixed the problem, just wondering did anyone else have this problem ?these are totally standard forks too,

As I have only started biking since March 2010 and this is my first bike , my knowledge is very very limited !

Any help would be great! :stupid:

Tks

'They all do that Sir'

You can get it even with upgraded springs. Never heard it reported from somebody who changed to a GSXR front end though.

thanks lads, at least its not just mine, and now know not to bring it back to the garage for them to look at it further.
And that the only answer is to change it.
Thanks again ! :thumleft:

Or ignore it - it isn't doing any harm.

ya might do that now as I say in the first one, only on it since march, and didn't want it to snow ball into something bigger , might not get the full benefit from changing them at the mo ( with my skill level:rolleyes: ) .I can live with the knock knowing it’s the limit of the forks and not something wearing away,

OK. I bought the bike brand new in March, and realised straight away the forks and shock were no good. I am 15.5 stone. The forks clunked like hell.

I changed the shock to a Nitron and put Hagon springs and matching oil in the front. At first the front was brilliant. I then went on my IAM course and have started to ride a lot faster. I still have the clunking front end, but the front end was acceptable.

I then had my bike in at Suzuki and the mechanic took my bike out and said to me the rear fells mint, the front is shocking. (excuse the pun)

I took it to reactive Suspension in York and had Traxxion emulators fitted. At this point I realised what really good forks are. The difference is night and day.

Keep an eye on posts from Yorkie Chris and Berlin on here. Apparently Chris has something in the pipeline that is better still.

Just make sure that there is no play in the head bearings, check you adjusted them right after changing.

Which I didn't, but reactive sorted out for me.

Out of curiosity, what exactly is causing the banging noise?

Loose head bearings can cause it but the "normal" SV knock I am not 100% sure about, it could be cavitation noise, it could be a harsh top-out due to the p*ss weak rebound damping, it could also be the shuttle valve slamming closed or the rod seal's play in it's groove.
