Repositioning ignition unit?

I'm starting the winter tinkering in ernest in the next week or so and I'm needing to reposition the CDI (i think, the control module under the rear light) to put a under-tray on.

I'm looking about repositioning this unit to a similar point to the reg/rec but on the left side.

I'm needing to know if this is a good idea or is it too wet?
