What sort of time over the winter do we reckon used bike prices hit rock bottom, and the dealers are offering the best deals? Now, December, February?

what you fancying Ralph?
Prices are starting to tail off a little now. December seems to be the best month
yup just before xmas. first thing to go is big boys toys in a recession.
I think pretty much now, then after christmas the dealers start struggling and offer good deals going into Jan and Feb... then things start improving.
I priced my CBR at rock bottom for over a month... £3200... not even a sniff of interest. Traded it in for £4k in the end, that goes to show how cheap I was trying to sell it for.

private deals about 2 weeks before christmas as long as you go with a big wad of cash you'll get some amazing bargains, as for dealers it's closer to the end of Jan or so.
Cheers Mark.

Remember though IF thinking new, we have a VAT increase in January 2011??
mid December may be right as sales staff are trying hard to fullfill sales quota's and most people are using most money for presents/food/alcohol etc and not essentials like new bikes.

Nah, I'd feel like I hadn't got a new bike (and no ABS). I think the Fazer 1000 is pretty much a natural successor to the SV though.

as the other said, just before christmas or february time.
I got a corking deal on my GSXR as the dealer wanted it shifting to make way for that years bikes as it was old stock and hanging around, they knocked £1500 off the screen price.

another one to add (even tho munkey's bought yours) is trade in a bike in december and you normally get a better trade in.
I got £1400 (about private summer price) for a 09 plate YBR125 with 5k on the clock when a got me sv last year

About £5.5k max, so I can look at bikes advertised up to around £6-6.5k I think.
Moto Rapido have this http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201042370811434
but I'd prefer one with lowers like this
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201028363622861
I'm a tight ar$e though and not precious about reg plate snobbery, but I do want a 2007 onwards bike, 'cos that's when the initial snatchy fuel injection issue got fixed, so if a low mileage clean 07 plate came up at £4500 I'd take that too.

The 07 onwards is fair enuf mate with the Fazer. the carb is still king with that 1000cc lump.
u wanting the lowers for touring try and get a set on ebay!
I would honesty say go for the 2009 one that is a steal seeing a new one is 10K!

Have you ridden one chap?
I really really wanted one. Saved the pennies, found a couple local to test ride and expected scud missile type of performance. And yep sure enough it went like fook and handled well but it felt so boring and totally un-inspiring. I was gutted. In fact i was more dissapointed with the fazer than i was with the versys. Decided to wait til next year for a tourer type.
There's some bargains around at the mo :)
What happened to yours?
Sold it July last year due to family reasons. Was all tricked up as well giving 145bhp on rear wheel

Yep, I've ridden one. It has less character than an SV for sure, but I'll ride again before buying. If the positives don't outweigh the negatives and I find I get bored with it, I can always change it in a years time.
When you want an upright seating position on an ABS sports tourer and you don't fit an ST, the only other options are
Any big tourer, R1200RT, etc - Yawn, I'm not old enough for that yet
Bandit 1250 - too fat and heavy, doesn't handle like a Fazer
Tiger 1050 - still a bit expensive for a nice one
VFR - sorry, just don't like the way it looks
CBF1000 - Yawn, I'm not old enough for that yet
K1200S - Was top of my list, then read a review that put me off
Hyperbike (Busa, etc) - too fat and heavy

Well, yeah, but you can get a really nice one for about the same money those yamahas are posted at. Seeing as yamaha has a high pricing policy and doesn't hold value the same way a tiger does, they come off pretty much at the same price.
If you check http://www.tiger1050.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&board=3.0 , which is the 'for sale' section of www.tiger1050.com, you should find quite a few of them around. Not to mention, I've seen plenty of good abs ones on autotrader myself.
...And yes, I'd really fancy one myself. I was going to follow the sv up with a fz1 as well, but read a couple of reviews and it finally came down to sprint st 1050 or tiger 1050 (most likely tiger... but will know when I ride it). Plus, Triumph is really picking up now, whilst most of the japanese are going down (with the exception of kawa probably), so in about an year, you could get better support for your tiger (after all, you are living in the UK, so triumph is sorta close by).

Thanks mate, seen that one, that's a lovely example, and I'd love to get all the hard luggage as well, but it doesn't have ABS.

There was none on autotrader a couple of weeks ago at that kind of price as I was at Kilted Ginger's house and took his Tiger out for the day, and that night we were looking at them. Decent ones were starting at 7k.
I know it's a beautiful bike to ride as I took KG's out for a good long run. It's not really the style of bike I was looking for, wanted something more sporty.
But now I see a couple in my price range....
B0ll0cks, you've screwed my head up!

BB junior is considering getting a Fazer 1000 but one of the older carby ones.Lovely bike but still a bit pricey considering they are all five years or more old.

Nope, done some thinking and the Tiger is not what I'm after looks wise, though it is a lovely bike to ride, I want something with more of a sports tourer look, than a big supermoto type look (difficult to pigeon hole the Tiger).
Although mileage and condition is most important, and age doesn't bother me too much, it is still an 07 plate Tiger, or an 09/59/10 plate Fazer, for the same money.
Power delivery on the Tiger is lovely, but the 150bhp R1 engine is a ballistic missile by comparison.
If once I've had a Fazer for a while I ride KG's Tiger again and I think it's a much nicer bike, I can always sell up and change bikes again for a Tiger of equal value.

Meah, there's no messing with it, then :p
If the styling and sporty nature is what you need, than go for it!! Do keep in mind though, the kawasaki z1000sx is about and by the looks of it, does what the fz1s should and more. I like the styling more, and read that the motor in it (140bhp, 132rwhp) is similar to the speed triple, although lacking a bit in the low low grunt department when compared to it (mental top end though...). Styling wise, it looks miles better (to me - so feel free to ignore me) than the fz1s. The only down is the price.. 9-9.5k pounds for a new one...
Anyway, hope you'll get whichever gets your soul racing more and enjoy many happy miles with it :)

Saw it in Bike magazine today, but no I don't want to spend that much on a new bike or my wife would insist on a horse to balance it out :p
