Hi all

I had a car pull out in front of me 3 weeks ago on a cold & wet morning, I braked, locked the front and ended up sliding along the road with the bike on it's side. Despite the low speed the bike is now cat D, I've just received it back and after checking it over it seems all I need is a new top fairing and rear brake pedal to get it back on the road (I'll put up with several small marks on the bike).

Any recommendations for what I should do about the fairing? Do I have to hand Suzuki £280 or is buying a scuffed one off ebay and getting it sprayed possible? Does anybody know anywhere in the Stockport/Manchester that could colour match a fairing (Candy Napolean Blue) & what the cost would be.

I'd greatly appreciate any (polite) suggestions ;)

Craig

If you post what model and year it is for there might just be someone on here who has what you want?

Hi Craig

Is the brake pedal now completely broken ? If not, don't get a replacement until I've have a go at the old one.

It's very hit or miss with decent Pointy fairings on Ebay as Scott found, but I think they crop up more now. So either bide your time and check Ebay almost hourly, or get saving for a new one or hope that a spray job is worth the money.

You might also want to check if the fairing subframe is bent or twisted. They can usually be sorted quite easily though, I believe.

the fairing sub frames do bend easy and are a bugger to twist back in my experience :( i purchased a scratched top fairing once off ebay and it cost me £100 + vat to have it sprayed :( the out come was about £200 in total so id rather have brought a new one.
keep you eye out on ebay i'm sure the parts will come up.

Keep an eye out on ebay they do come up on there. Id check that the footrest hanger hasnt got any hairline cracks in it, check it properly as its not uncommon after a spill, you certainly dont want it snapping off when your riding!. Also if the front brake lever has taken a hit its worth removing and checking its not cracked around the mount bolt. I have seen that happen before.

The SV is very prone to twisting the forks in the yokes, plus the yokes and forks can bend easily in an off, even very slightly. Worth checking to ensure its straight.

If I get any decent used top fairings in, I will let you know.

PeteVtwin650 - thanks for the thread, interesting to see. I wish mine was still rideable but the headlights are out of place :s

KwakZZR - I'll keep an eye on ebay until my payment is received from the insurance company but if I can't get a decent one I'll probably just buy a new one and not risk buying a broken one and trying to get it sprayed based on your experience!

SV650Racer - it was a very low speed crash and the bike had nearly stopped prior to making contact with the car so I think the frame/forks should be fine. I'll get the fairing off at weekend to get a better idea of if anything is damaged below the fairing. Yeah, let me know if you get any Candy Napolean Blue ones in. I'll check the bike more carefully at weekend when I can see it in daylight. Thanks for the advice.

Stu - how used is very used? The bike was in immaculate condition (other than dirt) prior to the crash so I do want to end up with a decent looking fairing as the cosmetic damage I'm leaving isn't very noticeable.

Thanks to everybody for the comments, they've given me something to consider :)

Well they're not napoleon blue so would need painting as well as a bit of repair. So depends how much youcan get them repaired painted for but they wouldn't cost you £100 to start with. Say a tenner plus postage.

Speak to Paul at PSG - he repaired my fairing after my Cat D write off and I didn't think it would be salvagable (if that's even a word). He's in the North West (Burscough) anyway.

The picture doesn't show that the whole fairing is pointing to the side and from what I've seen so far I can see several places where the plastic brackets inside the fairing have snapped off. I can't see it being repairable as there are at least 4 pieces missing as well as the areas that are snapped. I'll hopefully get chance to get the fairing removed at weekend so I can see the full extent of the damage.

It's beginning to look like I'm going to buy a brand new fairing but I'll keep an eye on ebay to see if I can get the right colour for the right cash.
