Yep. MSG.

Someone at work asked the same question today as I was munching on some Texas BBQ Pringles.

Though it's the flavour too- BBQ or paprika for me.

Oh yeah- it's the MSG really...!

It's not the MSG that makes you want to keep eating them although it is an additive in them!

And one can between two...pitiful effort...I can eat two cans to myself in a sitting...

Did you know you can buy MSG really easily. Something very telling...if you ever go to an Asian supermarket like the one in Bristol that is retail and trade, they sell it in BIG bags. Goes into every take away meal!

Personally, I prefer fresh cooked!

Yep natural flavour enhancer. It just makes stuff taste yummy, you can buy it and sprinkle it on anything, makes everything taste better.

Me no likey. If I cook a stir fry at home, I can taste every ingredient in there seperately, all giving something different. Eat the same thing from a takeaway and it's just all one taste.

I defy anyone to prefer say, a takeaway egg fried rice to my own. Or Pork Gyoza as Nic will tell you. Fresh is best!

I could be totally wrong, but I understood this was the case when it was first made, also it green and the colour it is now. That now it doesn't contain it now.

Nah, they used to use fresh coca leaves which contained trace cocaine...to actually make what you buy as a drug, it has to go through lots of processes. All they did was stop using fresh and start using a form of "used" coca leaves, processed to remove any trace.

I thank google for that and the medical journal article I found ages back when I saw this on Yahoo answers!

Thats just the crap cook.

Give it a whirl, im betting you will begrudging admit it tastes better after sprinkling some on. I saw a show where a top chef made soup, and he admitted it tasted better after adding a sprinkle of msg.

Oh, I'm not saying it wouldn't taste better, but it wouldn't taste as fresh and the falvours wouldn't be as clean.

I just hate the idea of using something like that.

Yes I agree the baked ones are yuk, I was having a bbq at my folks and we had some for pre dinner snacks with beer, needless to say I drank more beer than eating those.

I do like humous and pitta bread, maybe a bit salad on the side thats lush. Once made humous with raw garlic needless to say it was pugent, but it tasted great.

Nope, you're all wrong. It's the shape. They are shaped just perfectly to pop into your mouth, curvy side up, with full crisp to tongue contact, then close your mouth and CRUNCH.

My mate bought me a bag of MSG once for christmas. Gave it to my mum when she was cooking me dinner n she asked how to use it. 'just like salt I think' I said...
She then produced a meal of something and chips (can't quite remember) with MSG sprinkled all over the top! D'oh.

Humous is lush and I've only ever used raw garlic in it as I usually make it as a quick, ready in 30 seconds dip but I only use a little garlic. I love it with more, but most people don't :-(

Next time you make it, use canned chickpeas and throw them in a blender with the juices, the juice of half a lemon, a tsp tahini paste, seasoning, 1/4 clove garlic finely chopped and start to blitz. Add enough good olive oil to bring together to the right consistency, or if you're like me, add 1tsp olive oil and then finishe with water as it's healthier! Takes 30 seconds easily when in the processor...but only about 30 seconds to put it all in the processor as well.
