I have the Totw 2, it's very good IMO, a bit cheesy in places, but very helpful.

Ahh right, may have to per-chase it then.
Is it all track focused?

No, some is but they never mention race, it's always the way you take the corner, approach, apex and exit .

Yeah really good I thought, certainly helped my riding. As mentioned, just try and avoid the cheesy 'acting' scenes between the useful bits. It's road & track based, but the skills apply to both of course.

Very cheesy! "Now kids, repeat after me - Once the throttle is cracked open..."
But I liked the way it explained counter-steering and common rider input mistakes.
Happy to lend my TotW 2 DVD to whoever, just drop me a PM.

The DVD is probably the best starting point for the Twist series. It sits between level 1 at the school and the Twist of The Wrist books.
The books are great, but can be a little cryptic at times as the writing style always prompts you to answer the questions, rather than giving you straight answers. The DVD is more straightforward than this and so a lot of people get more out of it.
I thought the acting was a bit cheesy, but without it, it would actually be a bit stiff! Funny thing is, people seem to remember those bits and what was being said in this thread so it just shows that despite being cheesy, it worked!
The books are all over the web in PDF format.

Or alternatively you can buy them and give something back to the people who invested their time and money into writing them...

+2 - I'll go with that too. Been riding nearly 40 years but I learned so much from these books. Money well spent.

Amanda, is that like the police training road craft dvd ?

No very different really. Not so much following behind a rider with feedback but actually breaks down the ride and the mistakes that riders make. Goes into how to over come issues with riding, etc. Has been the best DVD I've got by far.

I was being sarcastic regarding you +1'ing lukes post about 'buying' the DVD.
I have already got this DVD, its very good, doesnt teach you how to control your bike on really crappy roads though ;)

It does teach you how to keep your bike more stable over traction reducing surface conditions though!

When you put it like that, I think I'd rather take the car!:p
Seriously, all the same stuff applies whatever the conditions - don't roll off the throttle, use a late turn in point, quick turn the bike (all of this ultimately leads to using as little lean angle as possible) etc.
The trick is that when the road surface gets slippery you do exactly the same but in a reduced capacity i.e don't roll on as aggressively, don't turn quick turn as abruptly etc.
The same errors that riders can make when cornering apply, wet or dry. The difference is that it is just way less unforgiving if it is slippery, so you input has to be that much more considered. It's just the same for me as racing in the dry vs. racing in the wet.
