View Full Version : Change on Facebook

For some personal/family reasons, I've reorganised Facebook a bit.
I've cut it back to friends and family only, but like to keep up with what you guys are doing, see your bike trips, rideout photo's, etc and increasingly people are putting facebook links on the forums for stuff like photo's.
So I've started a new account called "Ralph SV" and the profile pic is my XT600. Anyone who was on my Facebook before should have a new friend request from me. If I haven't added you, please don't take it personally, I didn't write down everyone who was on there before I started. Just send me a friend request.

I think people are just realising how public it is. The issue was that the likes of my teenage cousins have over 300 friends, basically their entire high school year and then some, kids they had met on holiday in Spain, etc, etc. So as soon as they commented on something any member of my family had posted, or they were tagged in a photo, that info basically became broadcast to an entire high school. I had lots of folk off the forum, who I want to keep up with via facebook, but the reality is they are people who I see only on forum rideouts and weekends away, not people I socialise with outside of forum events and total strangers to other members of my family. This was bothering certain members of the family so we agreed to all strip our main accounts friend lists back to just family and trusted friends. People don't like total strangers browsing their holiday snaps, just because somebody they know commented on it or was tagged in it.

Yep far too public for me, all the young'ns at work post up what they get up to and forget we can see too, if our wife has an account.
Sister limited hers to overseas friends

Thanks for all the friend requests guys.
Thanks also for all the friend recommendations. These mean I've added quite a few people by real name, where actually I may not have known which username on the forum that relates to. Many of those I can figure out by looking at profile pics, but some not. Therefore if I have added you as a friend, and you don't know me from Adam, and have stuff on Facebook you are not comfortable sharing, please just click Ignore to the request. I'm not going to worry whose added on this profile as it's for public stuff and mainly forum use anyway.

Kinda' see your point of view here, but unless I' mistaken, I think there are privacy settings you can tweak to stop that kind of thing happening, the problem being that you tend to have to make sure they don't reset to default every time facebook updates. I know I have mine on a bit of a lock-down so that only friends can see stuff - therefore only people I approve as a friend can see certain things.

Nope, I have privacy settings on my 'personal' account set to 'friends only' for everything, but there are photo's in there that are tagged as Ralph SV, which is not a friend of my personal account. From my Ralph SV account it flags the photo's tagged, then if I click on the album name I see the whole album, and so can any friend of Ralph SV. Same happens with comments.
If I go to the front page of my personal account from my Ralph SV account, I can see nothing at all.

The HP2 Sport is a motorcycling work of art in IMO. Look at the top yoke and the rearsets. Then drape it in Ohlins and Brembo....
It's my sportsbike if I win the lottery.
