All knowing Org, you have the answer I seek

So, I have a week off. Wife has given me a list.

No 1 sort out the shower, unfortunately the black stuff has attacked the silicon seal between tiles and basin. I have ripped it all out, but what will desolve the minute traces of seal on the basic before I apply a new seal (this time the expensive stuff with anti mould.

Oh and the whole area has been washed down with mould killer 3 times for those spores that have escaped.

Like he says, if there's minute traces left, then silicon sealant eater/remover from screwfix or similar.

Got to get the bulk of it off first

Not sure if it will dissolve it so to speak, but methylethylketone (MEK, apologies for spelling) should help shift it.

You can buy silicone eater, it does work ive used it loads of times, just be careful on some plastic and wood, i havent had any problems on ceramic.
Only leave it on for the minimum time.
Screwfix sell it i think.
The last time i bought some was in a pot where the brush was attached to the lid.

Just been out to screwfix, the stuff is cheap enough, I cannot believe it exists, cheap and all the time/effort I have spent in the past trying to remove it.

Ive used it with great effect in the past, you can get it in tubes for mastic guns too.

I'd thoroughly recommend Dow Corning silicone sealants, in my experience it is way ahead of any other make in terms of use/workability and finish. It comes in all sorts of grades, so pick the one you want. Screwfix do most of the usual ones. I won't use any other stuff now.

(I believe Dow Corning invented the stuff originally, may be wrong).

Some silicone dissolver is not good with chrome - careful near taps etc.
