View Full Version : Which HID Conversion? SVS.

I have been reading the other thread about HID's on the pointy and I quite fancy putting them on mine.
I have no idea where to start, and I can't find much on the forum either.
This is where people recommend to buy them http://www.hids4u.co.uk/, but which kit do I need? Is it the H4 slim kit, or do I need a dual conversion?
Also is it plug and play or is there some messing about with slicing etc?
Total novice on this subject I am afraid:confused:

It's really simple, or it must be 'cos I managed it!
I used this kit
http://www.hids4u.co.uk/h4-35w-proplus-bi-xenon-hid-conversion-kit.html
rather than the motorcycle specific ones because they only have one ballast and bulb.
You don't need slim ballasts, there's plenty of space on the SV to moount it.
All you do is take out the old bulb,
put in the new bulb,
plug the SV's power socket that was on the old bulb onto the wiring loom for the ballast and away you go!
I zip-tied the ballasts to the frame just inside the bikini fairing, one on each side.
Don't forget the discount code
strathy
at the payment stage.
Pete.

It's well worth it, the extra light is awesome, especially now it's winter!
If you need any help, let me know.

Just on quicky, what made you chose 5000K?
Sorry 2 questions - Did you have to take the nose cone off?
Bluepete

5000k,according to the site is the brightest. That's the whole point, not a pretty blue colour.
And no, you don't need to take the nose cone off, only those two triangular fill panels held in with one screw.
Pete ;)
Do you ever get any problems with other drivers flashing you due to your beam alignment with HIDs?
I know that a lot of cars have problems with beam scatter, does the SV suffer from this?

Philz,
Nope, just adjust them properly. The small hole in the black cockpit bit each side of the speedo is the hole, philips head screwdriver and away you go!
Pete ;)
What about at MOT time? Surely the beam pattern itself is different with HIDs compared to normal bulbs? Does the MOT man not whinge about this?

I had no problems at MOT time.
I suppose each reflector/light unit is unique, the SV seems to acommodate HIDS very well.
That's good to know. I just don't want to spend £100 on something which will get me flashed all the time and make me fail my MOT!

Wow that thread nearly talked me out buying some.
i have pics of my hid install if your interested. was a very neat job even though i say so myself.
although you dont need to take the top faring off its a damned site easier.
ooohhh and the 4.3 or 5k ones are the best, OEM car ones are about 4.3k if i remember.

Pete,
How much ramming and cramming is there to do to get the ballast and all the wiring in. It looks massive on the site, but I am sure it woon't be,
Cheers,
Dan

None whatsoever.
The ballast will zip-tie perfectly onto the upper side rail of the pointy, just under the bikini top. The wires then run inside that bikini top to the headlight unit. The side fairing panel will hide it and protect it from the weather. The HIDS4U units are very sealed and have excellent waterproof electrical connectors.

Do you mean the thickish black rail just behind and to the left and right of the clocks?
Was yours fully faired?

If you look at the frame near the front, on the upper framespar is one of those warning stickers. Under that is the narrow lower frame rail. The Ballast will zip-tie there perfectly and the wires are just the right length.

i have a few more if you would like to see anything else..
ooohhh if you can ask hids4u if you can get the kits without the bleedin switches as they are a pain in the butt.

Hows the ballast attached to the side?
Also are the 2 units just wedged into the front nose cone?
Also Thanks for the pics it looks very tidy!
no if you look at the air scoops you can see a couple of screws. i used the supplied sticky pads at first but they soon (within weeks) came loose which caused the ballasts to rattle around in there.
I have the 5000k on the car and they look cold white at night when compared to the 3200k halogens of the other cars. During day light, they seem warm white. Like it was said, they have the best light output and don't attract unnecessary attention.

Hi Guys,
long time lurker / new to posting.
Im looking into getting HiDs for my pointy. How are your kits working etc?
I see a few ppl have mentioned that the 5000k Temp is the best?
Any info on fitting these into a pointy would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Cookie

I bought the H7 8000k set from HIDS4U, what an error.. the ballast doesn't account for the high beam and the massive box has no home for my SV650, I have a naked 2005 model.
So I see what you did here, however, why did you choose the H4? Is there a particular reason? I'm looking in the owners manual and am not any better off...

...why did you choose the H4?
Its standard bulb size for sv I guess
