SV650K3 stuck in first gear

Hi everyone. I hope someone can help with this. My son has a SV650S k3 and on his way home tonight it got stuck in 1st gear and we can't get it out. He hasn't done anything different to normal but the gearchange does seem looser than normal as does the linkage. Any ideas what to do? Thanks.

tighten the linkage! :smt102 mine came loose once twas a pig to change gears

As above - refit the linkage correctly if it's loose.
If the external components are firmly fitted but it still doesn't work and the lever is 'loose', then it's likely the centring spring is broken thus the change mechanism can't reset itself between changes.
You may be able to mimic the function of the spring with a dextrous foot - centre the lever after each change and the claws should reset. If this is so then it's also a pretty good diagnostic check of the fault.
