Hi, I'm a new member here (just signed up ) and have recently bought a 1999 SV650S. I've got a few questions regarding the bike to 'start me off' and it saves me scouring the forum for the answers.
1. Is is possible to adjust the stock mirrors on a curvey? I can't see a thing out of them and whenever I try to adjust them they either 'snap' back into place or the wind pushes them back (especially the left-hand one )
2. I came from a Honda CG125 so and passed my test at the end of September, so I have to get used to the riding position more I gather - but cornering seems quite difficult at lower speeds (20MPH and under) and I feel pretty unsteady doing it. Is it to do with suspension settings or is it just me? The bike has 'RACETECH' suspension upgrades and I don't know a thing about adjusting it at all.
3. I haven't got round to purchasing a Haynes manual yet and unfortunately I didn't get an Owner's manual with the bike - hence the stupid questions, so I was wondering what the different readouts on the digital part of the clocks mean (obviously one is an Odometer, haha) and if any are adjustable - like a trip for when you fill up.
Cheers in advance if I get any replies and hello everyone :)

1.My mirror tightens up rotating it one way, and losens the other. That was until i snapped it off last week lol.
2. I found cornering better, however braking whilst cornering on a bigger bike wasn't as forgiving, and its not advisable to do so. Check tyre pressures, wear and wheel alignment.
3. Hold the button in a while to reset the distance measuring thing.
Check PM for manual.

1. Have you got a faired or unfaired model as they have different mirrors on them?
The unfaired should be easy to adjust, just make sure you tighten them up enough. Faired mirrors can also be adjusted, they are tighter to move and I've never needed to use any spanners on them but the bolt under the rubber cover may have came loose if the wind is pushing them back. Some find Chews extenders are useful on the faired as they bring them out a bit so you see less of your elbows.
2. If you're having difficulty steering at low speeds I could write a whole list of things to check that will worry the cr@p out of you. But I won't. Chances are you just need a bit more time to get used to the bike as the CG is easier to turn at low speeds then the SV, and I won't bore you with the explanation as to why. But while I've got you there check your tyre pressures, oh and check your oil level.
3. Yep there is a trip on the Odometer. But in all the years of ridding SV's I've never bothered to learn how to operate it...
4. Pic's of bike please?

Ah, OK. Thanks for the info. It is the faired model so I'll get to that tommorow... or later on as it's almost 1.00am :/ Yeah, it is probably just me with regards to the steering, the turning circle is alot different to a CG with straight bars - and I fully understand the reasons why. I will check the tyre pressures and oil though, cheers.

Welcome aboard!!
Hello there, I take it you will be coming to the AR in Yorkshire, not too far for you, :D
Daryl.
I'll say Hello from the only nutta who partially considers himself as from "The Island".
most of my family are down there so i'm kinda an honourary islander.
The clocks are simple, 1 is odometer, 2 is "Trip A", 3 is "Trip B"
These last 2 can be rest by pressing and holding the button whilst on the option your on.
I use 1 for fuel miles and the other for what ever i fancy, sometimes it's distance checking on a run etc.
Congrats on purchasing clearly the best looking SV around
*runs and hides before the pointy owners read this
You'll have to meet up with the_lone_wolf, he's only round the corner from you (just like everywhere esle is on the island though).
Collis (Family name incase your wondering who we are down there)
PS, drop over to the South West surfers group, there is a xmas meet being organised that you might want to tag along to.
