View Full Version : AR11 - WHEN do you want it?

The venue is chosen! Now to decide the date.

I'm putting up a choice of 10, yes 10 possible week ends so that you have as much leeway as possible.

I know there are pros and cons to every date but we cannot please all the people all the time.

You can however, vote for more than one date, if several are good for you.

if any dates tie at the end of the poll, we'll have a vote off

Done. In a nut shell, if any of the dates I haven't selected wins, I won't be there. So now is your chance. If you don't want me there, make sure you vote for the dates I haven't. ;)

Yay, some of the dates I voted for are winning.

Anyone think it's a little too early to be celebrating?

I might be confused here (or missed something) , but the dates are Thursday to Saturday, are we not running Friday to Sunday, as in previous years?

My mistake... I'll be there on Thursday, but noone else has to be.

I have voted to avoid major cricket matches at Lord's - as these are the non negotiable weekends I work. But I think going for the same weekend as the Royal Wedding when it is announced would be a top idea.

orose

Just to remind people who are interested in their racing, some of the weekends listed do clash with meets based on the provisional calendars.

8-10 July is the British F1 GP weekend at Silverstone.
29-31 July is the British WSB round, again at Silverstone.
The British MotoGP round is earlier in the year, so doesn't clash with anything listed.

If anyone knows of any other events that might sway people, give me a shout and I'll try and find out when they are.

What's wrong with June? We'll get better weather. July and August are the rainy season.

Oh, hang on, it's in Yorkshire. It's always rainy season.

Nothing planned for any of those dates at present, so I'm not going to vote. I'll see what date it is and if nearer the time I can't make it, I can't make it.

This is not looking good for me if I want to bring the family... the kids are really looking forward but the highest ranking date is still in the school term, don't you guys have kids? or do you just want to get away from them?
I'll probably still come on my own, but its a shame if the young uns don't get a taste of all the fun.

I think a lot of people see it as a reason to get away from the kids.

I'd like it in school hols too, and I'm not even bringing any kids

Smudge
22-11-10, 06:23 PM
Is the AR more of a family occasion then as I have only been on other rideouts and they was a good ride and a pee up and good chin wag after and maybe a curry lol.
Are we talking teenages or little toddlers?

Bluefish
22-11-10, 06:41 PM
I guess there are more people that don't have kids that are under 16 say, than those that do, so having it befor or after the hols makes sence to them, doesn't conflict with main holiday, still what do i know

fizzwheel
22-11-10, 06:45 PM
Surely if its term time, you pack the car up during the day whilst the kids are at school, then travel down on friday night ? Alot of people do this anyway and plenty arrive later on in the evening on Friday.

Then you have all day Saturday and then depart Sunday afternoon / tea time so you are back home again ready for your little ones to go to school on Monday morning ?

Remember the main focus is on Saturday both for the rideout on for the socialising.

Although I am not particularly bothered if other folk bring their kids, if thats what they wanna do, or have to do, then they will no doubtedly have a great time....however

I do not bring my kids......

I prefer to have time to myself, in selfishness you may think, but they're round my ankles 24/7 and I prefer to let my hair down, and not have to worry about being mum, as usual. But this is my preference. There are lots of people that get totally hammered, its no fun to me having my children around, when I am trying to have some 'adult time'. Plus I don't want to hear the whining of a nine year old that hes bored, or babies crying because they aren't being entertained. Not fussed about anybody elses, as they aren't mine to look after....no offense meant btw.

Anybody elses kids, more than welcome!

I was toying with the idea of taking the small person along this year, but having been to the AR10, it's no place for kids.

I'd certainly not bring the small person. There's too much drinking, hijijnxs and crazy antics for little kids to be around. Maybe older kids/ teenagers would be fine, but I'd say any age under 14-15 is too young.

Saying that I'd say the same about dogs, dont bother bringing them if they are going to be left in a tent to yap for hours while you go and get pie eyed.

Agree about the kids.

Dogs, it depends on the dog. If I tried to take mine along to get pie eyed, he'd slope off back to the tent as soon as I wasn't looking and slump in a heap. If any dogs were yapping we'd find him back at the tent with his paws over his ears and a "will you shut those little sh1ts up?" look on his face. Otherwise the only noise you'd hear out of my dog if left in the tent would be a contented snore. (In fact he's through on the kitchen floor doing exactly that right now)

fenjer
22-11-10, 08:58 PM
I believe then Ralph that your dog is excluded from my description a dog that is left in a tent to yap tends to be a yappy dog. Your dog is clearly not a yappy dog.

Sometimes it cant be helped, and I'm well aware dogs bark in strange places and at strange noises, but all night yapping is a tad inconsiderate to other folk there.

*gets off soap box*

As we are considering a barbecue, please do bring yappy dogs... we want to try and keep our costs down ;)
