Are you sure it's not indicating engine fault and putting the car into limp mode? You need the codes read really to find out what's occurrin'.

My mates Focus diesel kept doing this when going up hill - turned out to be a pin-hole in the air pipe feeding the turbo. Nothing showed up on the diagnostic machine as all the electric systems were fine, and the garage ended up swapping all sorts of parts (including the turbo) before checking the hoses.

Of course, it could be something entirely different - but it's something to check?

Does it happen first thing, when the engine is cold?

no does it at any time, it has trouble starting first thing but know this to be injector seals which im doing soon, but this cutting of power is something new

Oh right, I only ask cos my astra goes into limp home mode if you're too enthusiastic before it's warmed up properly.
