View Full Version : So then, first Module 1....

...and it was all going perfectly until the very very end when I bugger up the emergency stop in the wet :-(
I get there and the tarmac is dry, sit in and eat a bite of lunch and wait for the examiner and it chucks it down...
Lady examiner for something a bit different, get out there and park the bike in the bay...all dandy, avoidance swerve thing rode through at 51k, great, do the U-turn and put my foot down at the very end as I used the front brake to stop for some reason and needed to catch the bike as I unbalanced a bit , but it wasn't marked down as a minor, I assume because I didn't drop bike...Carried on to do emergency stop, 59k but it was my first e-stop in the wet and I fish-tailed. Normally I handle e-stops fine - in the dry - and hardly use the back brake but I think the nerves got to me at the final hurdle, I used too much back brake and I think pulled the clutch in. Still, I stayed on fine, if I'd have just lifted my foot off the back brake and saved the wibble I think she would have given it me, GUTTED is not the word!
On the plus side though, not one minor apart from the outright fail so have to look on the bright side :-D And despite not passing I really enjoyed my 20 mile ride back from the riding school and even went for a bit of shopping therapy (a headlight bulb :-P) so all is not lost.
Better bloody get it next time! Not telling anyone when though so don't ask :-P
A disappointed but happy MYC x

Do they not fail you for putting your foot down on a U turn these days?? That was a complete fail when the old test was around.
Pah....bad sweaty socks that, I was really expecting you to pass that too. Meh, don't be too downhearted, statistically those who take a few swings are supposed to be better riders, apparently! xx

cheers Chris :-) I didn't come off it so my instructor deemed that as "handling it well" :-P

Well I'd already done the U-turn and had straightened up, it was on stopping that I used the front brake - dunno why - and the jerk made me lose my balance a bit

Ok I may have not been telling the whole truth, I also went to a craft shop for arty supplies, the pharmacist and the petrol station but heyho :-P

You didn't go and try and beat your own personal record for the total amount spent on clothes and shoes in one hour. He's still a lucky b******D.
Good attempt MYC, I'm sure you'll get it next time round!

Never mind, you'll kick ass next time now you know what to expect.
I failed my mod 1 1st time round on the emergency stop.
Passed with flying colors mod1 2nd time round & mod 2 1st time round.
Just for the record, I did it fine, the e-stop, the examiner was peed off with the guy who went before me as he was previously reported for an 'altercation' with an examiner (she didn't find out until 2 mins before the test).
She had to get someone to do the test with her (for protection?) and had to make up some **** & bull about how she was being observed not him.
Unfortunately for her/me she couldn't find anything to fail that chap on despite what appeared to be a very shakey run.
When I felt a split seconds worth of lock on the rear wheel (raining all day) which I promptly controlled, she saw what she was looking for.
She said, and I quote, your back wheel was almost in front of the handlebars.
The group of people in the test center watching all didn't believe she failed me.
I'm not bitter (much) but she was in a mood which cost me a re-test.
I aced it 2nd time & I'm sure you will too.
Don't be phased and keep your thoughts focused on the parts you nailed.

I've used my back brake I think maybe 5-8 times since passing my test and that's me doing over 5000 miles.
Maria....If I had a quid for every time I locked my rear in practise I'd be minted. It happens...I hardly use it now!

Hang in there. You'll do fine next time around.
Or just move to the US.
Easy 15 min. test and a spin around the carpark and you have a full license. Or take a few weeks rider safety course on a 125 and skip the test altogether. You may know nothing about riding a bike but you will have the license for it. (note: you must have a car license to apply though)

LOL nice work :-D unfortunately I couldn't get away with that as the one on the GS500 I was using squeaks like mad so obvious if I'm using it
(note: you must have a car license to apply though)
That's a fair big catch...unless passing the car test involves a handbrake turn in the car park and reversing into a parking spot?

Aww thankyou so much everyone! Feels so good to get it out the way!
And Andrew, that's kind of what I though about the playing silly beggars, I have to ride 20 miles to the school, don't fancy doing that only to be told it's being canceled.
