We all know that this epidemic is inevitable. Tactics are a must.

I would grab some butchers' knives from the Uni canteen downstairs, and get a vehicle from the Maserati garage down the road. I'd search for a weapons store, and equip better (sniper rifle, sword, shotgun). I'd pop to Tescos and hoard, then go in search of survivors and better equipment.
Once I have adequate partners, we'd get to a vantage point, and over time fortify our base and do patrols for more survivors, until a strong colony is built.

These are "Shaun of the Dead" zombies, with a few faster "Zombieland" zombies.

Fortify the base? You're already secure inside a walled campus! Having said that, they may come over the footbridge...

Worst comes to the worst, seal off the gates at North and South towers and let the zombies take the New Halls while you party in the quads and eat like kings in Boog buwahahahaha

edit: don't let them take the old boiler house either, there's a secret tunnel back to Founders...

Yeah, Founders might be the vantage point, but there's too many random nooks and all the architecture would give the zombies good camouflage

Nearest military base? There will be weapons if they are all dead (somehow)...

Other than that, Barricade my upstairs then slowly kill them all with all sorts of crap. Obviously in this country there arnt so many Guns, so I guess its good old fissioned close quarters for us in the UK. Fassion some sort of big ar$e sword? ha ha

There is a really good programme on syfy HD only at the moment just like this.

I think it would be awesome.

I nip to kerry's to grab a couple of rifles and shot guns then I would head out into the sticks. Find a house in the middle of a field so I could see people coming... Job done.

I would ocassionally nip to the local town for extra supplies.

Only slight problem there though G, you have to sleep...

Anyway, know what you are talking about with the Syfy thing, its pretty good! Better than a fair few films that no doubt had WAY bigger budgets. Though I think 28 days later still has the edge :)

Although the house would be in the middle on nowhere I would have the ground floor substantially barricaded... would depend on whether they were typical slow zombies or 'land of the dead' clever zombies.

28 days later, resident evil and all the films made by that other famous bloke. I love them all

I saw that SyFy program I think, or one similair. Made me consider things I had not thought of before, i.e. at some point you are likely to lose water/electricity/gas supply. Not everyone unzombified is going to be your friend and you could be facing hostile 'normals' after your food/water/weapons/ammo a bit like in Waterworld or The Postman. I think you would have to act quick to stockpile supplies, likely to be other people with the same idea.

its taken a few weeks but it seems so obvious now!!!

GO OUT TO SEA!!!

provided you dont take any zombies on your boat then you'll be fine.

If you managed to get one of the P&O Ferries or similair, stocked up for a nice long cruise then you would be sorted for months. by the time you ran out of supplies, the Zombies would probably have died out.

Thats the beaty of it, you'd only need to moor up just off shore.

Take as big a boat/ship as you can get your hands on and move it just out into sea. Its the perfect fortress and as has been said a few months on there and land should be safe(ish)

If you do need supplies etc from shore, use one of its smaller boats to send landing parties out on supply runs.

Why won't there be zombies in the sea?

They may not have the coordination to swim, but don't bodies generally have neutral boyancy?

do animals turn into zombies??? what if there were zombie sea creatures???

after watching the last resident evil i thought the prison seemed like a gd idea, but being out at sea definetly seems better, i would pop down to the quay and steal one of the 100ft plus sunseekers with a rib on the back to come back with supplies.

Also if there arnt zombie fish you could do a fiar amount of fishing for food and then nip in on the rib and raid tesco for canned stuff!!!

would be pretty insane way of life though, bk to basics.

Reeder

The oil rig would have no advantages over a cruise ship/ferry really would it? Plus it's in a fixed position which if you needed to move wouldn't be very helpful.

If you want to survive, you would have already read up on it by getting a guide book like this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zombie-Survival-Guide-Complete-Protection/dp/071563318X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1291818282&sr=1-1)

cruise ship is also on the agenda, i would imagine it would be a bit of a bast*rd to drive if you didnt know what you were doing though.

i think most people with basic boat knowledge could drive a big motorboat.

What about fuel???

The oil rig could be the base and the boat the getaway if necessary

A boat would be good, but like you say, the fuel would be a nightmare so it would only be a short term solution. You could alway use a sailing yacht but it would provide limited protection compare to a ship with high sides.

Get a semi-sub, they can move (albeit slowly) under their own power... :)

Been giving this more thought:

DEFENCES:
Even if they can swim out to you, you're 30ft above them safe on deck.

Tie barrels full of anything to ropes, tie other end of rope to boat deck.
Drop barrel onto acending zombie
pull barrel back up
and repeat

Supply runs would also be able to bring materials to make wepons/explosives etc. this is assuming you've got your self a large liner/crusie ship type craft.

SURVIVAL:
This theory is based on assuming that the zombie-ness cant be contracted by animals.

Fish would be high on the menu aboard "Great Boatain" <-- See what I did there.

I'd be relying on wind to get the supply runs to shore and back, at least until we'd secured a fuel station near the shore. - This would be an essential task in retaking the land, which is clearly our ultimate aim.

Anyone doing a supply run would be given full strip searches before and after, if they have any new cuts/abraisions they'd spend a week in solitary observation. If they appear clean then its only 48 hours
Both are followed with a week living in the marital suite aboard the vessle where you're also exempt from any on deck tasks.

RETAKING THE LAND:
Based on a fuel station to fuel station tactical advance for both fuel and supplies.

SURVIVORS:
Also placed under observations for 1 week when they're brought to the ship, but no marital suite they're then inducted into ship life.

If only I spent as much time thinking of the important stuff....

Stuff

All well and good, but you forget the main factor in this.

Non-Zombied Humans.

Get a Cruise Ship - why? FAR too big and would draw too much attention - assuming the Zombies take over the mainland there is nothing to stop a ship from any of the survivors of the worlds Navys just boarding you with superior weapons and training and taking your supplies.

Inducting other survivors - forget it, at some point someone else is going to get the idea that they should be in charge and not you - at that point you have to fight etc.

Boat out to sea is a good idea, but a medium sized boat with galley and cabin facilities is about as big as you want for you and your immediate family.

Everyone else should be told to go look after themselves.

Yup.

The first week was amazing. It's been average since, but the last one was a bit better

Not very consistant though. In atlanta they seemed desperate to not even get any zombie blood on their skin but then in the one with the graves they were just getting covered in it.

I'd be well up for it and I live close by. I frikkin love zombie apocalypse stuff. I have loads of zombie movies. I would be an asset to any zombie survival squad. I am also lethal with airsoft and since I get up for work before 6am, I can easily relate to the mindset of a zombie, and thus stay one step ahead of them. :)

Complete aside, but does anyone remember that Derren Brown hypnosis sketch, where they hypnotised an unknowing guy in a pub while he was playing a shoot em up Zombie game?

They took him while he was hypnotised out of the pub and into a warehouse made to look like a hospital or something and filled the place with actors made up like and acting as Zombies. They "chased" the guy around the place for a while. Fortunately the guy did not have a weapon on him. I can't quite remember the effect it had on him but apparently he was none the worse from his experience.

If it had been me, I would have shat my pants on TV.

I remember that. I don't know about Derren Brown. It's an entertainment show after all, so I'm not convinced it's all real, but that one was quality. I would be bricking it too!

As a side note, much to the Mrs's dismay, I strapped my drift170 to my head yesterday with the provided head strap, and ran around my house like a nob, looking in cupboard etc. testing it to see how it handles the dark and to see if it'd come flying off my noggin. It worked a treat, so if I have a bash at this zombie thing, I'm filming it FPS style, and gonna edit together a video of first person carnage. :D
