We are having a few issues with Velnet at the mo, our site keeps getting hacked and all traffic gets re-directed to spyware sites, unless typed directly into the address bar.
We are paying 60 odd quid, plus an extra tenner for 100MB of extra space, per year I think, plus the domain name fee of 20 quid bi annually.
Anywhere around this price or cheaper would be fine, but preferable somewhere with a bit better customer service.
Our I.T. guy has suggested 123-reg but it's all new to me.
Any info, advice or reviews would be greatly received.

I use 1&1 internet, always had decent service no issues with spam / hijacking and cheap. (£30 a year for a basic package in.c domain name) I have only ever hosted mickey mouse sites on it so traffic is low, so cannot comment on response, traffic shaping or any of that stuff.

It's for a low traffic site, with e-mails. The e-mails can get quite busy, but other than that, we are a low usage company.
Listen to your IT guy, failing that try FastHosts (they are based in Gloucester too).
definately move provider to someone else. they sound like their security on the back end is very weak if you keep getting hacked.
Reset your passwords on there too, try something extreemly cryptic, infact ask a local 13year old to write a phrase, it will b33 411 w1r3d l1k3 7h15.

We are actually paying £57.99 per year for the basic account, £50 per year for the extra 100MB of space, and £10 for 2 years domain renewal. So £112.99 a year!

123 are alright, never had a problem. The admin of a largish website recommended me them to me, and that site was perfect.

Depends on a lot of variables of course, but being hacked is usually down to poor code (allowing the ability for SQL injections for example) rather than any vulnerability with the server itself.
123-reg here. I was with Supanames (and would have heartily recommended them) on a "Linux Mid" account until 123-reg took 'em over. Circa £100 for two years inc domain, 3GB space, 500 email forwarders, etc. Good spec.
However, I'm far less happy with 123-reg, e.g. their support seems to be operational 9-5 Mon-Fri with sod-all at weekends. My sites were down for two weekends earlier in the year (both hardware faults - they moved me to a brand new server after the second one).
I'm seriously considering moving my site(s) (with all the hassle that will involve) when the accounts are due for renewal around the turn of the year.

I host both of the companies I work for with 1 & 1, same here really, no problems whatsoever.

we are after hosting for this web site www.plymstockcommercials.co.uk (http://www.plymstockcommercials.co.uk) and for our e-mails. Web traffic is minimal at best and e-mails are only for a dozen people.
