View Full Version : GSXR fairing on Curvy. Better lights? Oh yes!

Hi All,
Thought I'd share my latest addition to the SV. A GSXR 750 fairing/light unit. . . with HiD. . . Now I really can see where I'm going in the dark:cool:. What a shame the SV has such rotten lights. Doesn't look curvy anymore but it is a price worth paying, in my opinion.
Ride safe Y'All;).

Errr I'd like to point out the paint schemes don't match ;)
Looks like a good conversion, are you going to paint the GSXR fairing to match?
Then it would look perfect
Nice work

I thought about putting some lights of that vintage on my (GSXR not SV)... what is beam pattern and such like with HID?

Nice touch. Looks factory fit as well. Bit of paint & it'll look perfect

I agree with Bibio, fairing too high, doesn't flow with the rest of the bikes lines, reminds me of those aftermarket fairings you used to get to fit to naked bikes in the 70's, but then it covers up a large proportion of a curvy, so it's definitely an improvement ;-)

Hi All,
Yeah, 'tis a shame to lose the curvy lines (Easy Ralph!) but function took precedence over form on this occasion. Decent weather protection is bonus for us winter riders.
Will probably paint yellow bits to match fairing rather than vice versa, that'll confuse people even more :-)
As for Hid conversion - well in the curvy it was worse than useless. Beam pattern was rubbish, poor spread, awful dim spot in the dead ahead area which is sort of where you want the light to be. In the Gixxer lights they are fabulous! No complaints at all.

Gixxer rear end and a paint job, sorted :D
sorry i don't like it, even in the same colour it'd look a bit wrong...
i had a CX500 with a windjammer fairing that would best it in a beauty contest :D

Now thats a bit harsh!
At least hes trying to disguise the fact that its a curvy...
I doesnt look too bad, agree its a little high but nice to see something different done. Was there much work to get it to fit?

Ah, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The plastic maggot I seem to recall never won any beauty contests either but did do a reasonable job of getting one from A to B. My SV does the same and now it can do it in the dark without scaring the life out of me at anything over 30mph in the dark;).
Will let you know how it looks when the paint is done.

'Tis indeed different:D. Was a bit of work - cut, mate and weld the gixxer/sv fairing bracket, weld up bracket for clocks, make up other mountings for lowers. Lots of try it and see engineering but the end result I find works for me. Just need a flip screen for the winter and it'll be fine.
;)
What a shame the SV has such rotten lights.
Surely not another area where the pointy beats the old curvy? :D

I think it looks horrendous like. It doesnt at all flow with the rest of the bike. It just doesnt work. The front end looks dated as heck and the rear looks like a modern bike. I don't think it looks factory fitted at all.
As long as your happy with it though all is cool

I love the trophy cabinet lights and front fairing on that era of GSXR, mean and brutish looking... way better than the all new poncy looking fashionista offerings

Makes a change to see something different.
Beats "OOoohhh look, I've fitted a Gixxer front end, or I've got a new rear shock" Which has been done umpteen times.
Same as Barwell with the Prilla front end, it makes a refreshing change to see something new tried with the SV.
you need some fork protection mate.

Well, have braved the cold and taken the Sv for a night-time test ride.
Man, those lights are soooo much better than anything I tried with the SV unit. Absolutely brilliant (no pun intended). I can honestly say that, for the first time since owning the SV, I can truly see where I'm going. Wind protection is ok, could do with a flip-up screen for proper winter protection but is still miles better than stock SV.
The looks are not everyones cup of tea then? Good! Never having been one to follow the flock as it were, I'm glad that it has caused a stir and allowed people to give their honest opinions. Ultimately though, function this time took precedent over form and the end result, in my opinion, is worthwhile.
She may not be pretty to some but the SV handles, goes, stops and does all I ask of it.
Wil post some pics when the tank and tail are painted to match the fairing.
