I bought one last week as a bit of an impulse purchase and was just wondering what your thoughts were on it. My kids are 5,8 and 11 and hardly ever use their Wii anymore and I thought they'd enjoy kinect, but Santas cash flow is limited and it's a large sum that could be spent on other things.
So what d'ya reckon? A must for every family, or an expensive gadget that will be forgotten by the end of January?
Thanks xx

I don't think it will ever be the same as holding a controller.

I paid £357 for the xbox, kinect and 3 games and I keep thinking how many other presents that would have bought.....

your mad-
Yep, you hit the nail on the head there ;)
KJ recoup some of your spend, by selling the Wi and games (seperately) if they don't use it now
What games you got for the Wii

Hmm... I dont think they'd appreciate me getting rid of the Wii, even though they dont often use it. If I did and they didnt get on with kinect then they'd be left with nothing to play on. (and my baby loves Mario)
I was kinda hoping someone would pop up and tell me how fab kinect is!!

Too new to give any review :p
I'll stick with the Wii for now, my lot don't play on it that much either

It's great fun my 6 year old loves it but it's definatley a fad, as mentioned you'll never replace a controller. At least you'll still have a xbox which IS BRILL the kids will love that alone! Just make sure you've got enough controllers to stop the arguements!

I've heard it's great but apparently there's a bit of a time delay on it...
A (good-looking) customer made a point of repeatedly telling me the backs of his legs were killing him the other day, all because of the workout his Kinect was giving him... If he was trying to impress me I wasn't!

From what I can see it looks impressive but there are precious few games for it as yet.
What it doesn't have is the same fine grained hand accuracy as the Wii/PS3 move but then it gains whole body recognition.
Combine it with a Wii/PS3 move type hand controller it would be out of this world.
As others have said even without the Kinect you still have an xbox360 which has some fantastic games.

I think the possiblities for the Kinnect are brilliant. once the developers explore the full potential of the interface I can see some really good games coming out for it. the early releases are never going to be as impressive. I will probably be waiting for the prices to come down after christmas, unless someone buys me one.

Same as. I would get one myself but I've just bought a PS3 & GT5! :-)

Your kids will love it, then get bored of it. Then an exciting new game will come out and they'll love it again!
Like some others have said too, you've still got an xbox out of it with some truely brilliant games that'll keep them entertained for a long time, so don't think you haven't made a good purchase :)
