I always use "www.tyre-shopper.co.uk"

Saves me a fortune. You choose the tyre you want, book the time slot at National Tyres, pay online and just turn up.

I just checked, you can get Conti Sport Contacts for £107 each fitted.

My car has Avon ZZ3's wich I paid the huge sum of £89 each. The fitter showed me their system which quoted over £140 each for a drive-in customer.

If you're a member of NCI breakdown (know a few people on here are) you get 10% off tyres at national tyres ...and they tend to be cheapest anyway, pre-discount.

Is that the dealer? Seriously 'inflated' prices wherever that is unless there Michelin Pilots, then you just throwing money away better value out there. A set of top brands in that size should be about the £400 mark.

Thats what is on the back now, but it has a pair of Continentals on the front, will do some ringing around before I get them and the local Audi dealer definately wont be putting the tyres on I am not paying dealer prices for tyres...

245/35 18" for me... Run flats too  so not the most comfortable ride... Cost a bit too... £980 for 4 Tyres, and I do nearly 5k a month.

I seem to have a habit of going sideways a bit too which doesn't help on the wear

8k miles isn't too bad on a powerful car. My little runaround front tyres used to last less than that a few years ago but that might be down to the squealing I heard round corners.

I've not boughty own car Tyres for 5 years or so. But when I look for Kerry F1 Tyres are alway the be and will beat any other local price.

She has a MINI cooper D and I've heard the dealer is very very cheap on Tyres so I will have to give them a go next time.

That's OK then. I'd have had kittens if somebody quoted me that for four tyres for an A3.

I think the tyre dealers do rip off the company car owners, though large lease companies usually have it wrapped up with a tyre choice and price agreed for each vehicle in advance with one of the large tyre fitting chains, and they are getting better prices than you or I could get. Means the driver doesn't get a choice over what tyres go on his car though.

My Vectra SRI is low profile and I bought it because it had some toys that the base model didn't have, and dark tinted glass which I prefer for security. Over the lifetime of the car I'd probably have been better paying £500 more for the luxury model rather than the sporty model, which has all the same interior toys and the tinted glass, but the tyres are half the price.

I have always found valuetyres.co.uk are a pretty good place to find out what you should be paying.

Conti Sport Contacts 225/45 R17 Y on there are £104 each

I don't buy them there though as the Vectra is really sensitive to tyre imbalance, so I have to get them from somewhere that has a Hunter GSP9700 tyre balancer and knows how to use it. They price match with value tyres though!

Thank god for a bog standard Honda Accord and a friend in the trade.

Before Bri put this up I have been asked to find out about new tyres for my neighbours BMW Sportline which I have garaged for her while she is in Australia[Comes home on the 2nd Dec]------
Different size front and rears and got quoted silly money but I am waiting to see if Costco can come up with a better price as they have a deal on at the moment if you buy four. I have checked and they don't need to be the same size, just buy four.

I find Costco very competitive on tyre prices for standard sizes or van tyres and often have promotions for a reputable brand

lol i went into ATS today to get my wheel fixed :( my alloy has the powder coating cracking on the inside of the wheel so the tyre isnt sealing correctly and keeps going down :( they grinded all the old paint off the inside and re fitted the tyre so hopefully job sorted :) while there i got a price on 4 michelin tyres £960!!!!!! FFS!!!!!
anyhow i dont travel as many miles these days so for now my tyres will do just fine :)

My mondeo runs 225/40/18 tyres how much did ats quote you for them? Looking at the link posted earlier the most expensive tyre was a Michelin pilot sport at £147

I'm going to need 2 tyres soon one has a slow puncture and one is low on tread. Wouldve needed 3 tyres but got one replaced as an insurance claim when someone drove into my rear quarter :-)

You'll be fine if you don't buy a sporty model with big wheels and low profile tyres. My BMW 3 Series was the SE model with a few extras ticked and had all the toys, but the tyres were 205/55 16 and they were 65 quid a corner for a decent brand tyre.

For mine, 4 tyres inc fitting = £1368.00 Inc.

That covers Dunlop SP 4 X 265/35/22 Z Rated... Though I actually pay about £200 a corner trade + fitting (One change so far).

Whilst we are at it then.

I am going to need to put tyres on the back of the Audi sooner than later. Its ages since I bought premium tyres.

I used to run Goodyear Eagle F1's on my Golf which gave decent grip and the milleage wasnt to bad. We put a set of Continentals on the Focus that did brilliant milleage wise.

Car currently has Continentals on the front with Pirelli's on the back. Size is as stated earler 255/35 19"

Audi spends most of its life trundling up and down the A303. I am not to bothered about out and out grip / super sticky soft tyres. I want something thats going to last at the expense of giving up a little in terms of performance.

I prefer to stick with a named brand, any recommendations....

Your not going to get a "sales rep" (ie: Pirelli P6000) type long life tyre in those sizes I don't think. The Conti Sport Contact or the Eagle F1's are probably the most run of the mill tyre.

If you did want to consider a budget name the Barum Bravuris is made by Continental and will be half the price of the Conti Sport Contact, but if you never push your tyres, I don't believe they are half the tyre.

Fizz,

I used to have F1's on my best ever trafic car, a 3.2l Mv6 Omega. That was a heavy, powerfull car and the F1's never let me down. If you can find Avon ZZ3's for a decent price, they are very good too. Currently on all four corners of my Skoda Superb (same size as your A6). Seem to be wearing well, good water displacement, stability and quiet as well.

Currently got Wolfrace 20" alloys and 265 50 20 Kumho Ecsta on the Warrior, but will be changing back to 16" alloys with General Grabber AT2's in the very near future, ie tomorrow. Managed to get the wheels and tyres for £750, which I thought was quite a good price.

All I have to do now is sell the Wolfrace alloys and tyres to offset the cost!! Anyone want them? :D

B*gger, washed the Audi this morning and checked the tyre depth on the back, backs are not far away from the wear limit now, checked the fronts and they are done for.

So thats 4 it needs, Ordered them via kwik fit online, mobile fitted coming out on tuesday. Kwik fit are doing a special price on Continentals at the moment. Continental Sport Contact 3's at £199, which is the best price I found unless I wanted to fit a more budget brand, which I didnt.

Yep, I knew that the tyres on this would be expensive when we bought it. However I was getting prices that were £250 ish a corner, so I've saved £50 a tyre just by 1/2 hr or so of internet searching. Personally I'm happy with that, and I dont have to faff about taking loose wheels to somewhere to get tyres fitted and having to find a garage that'll do that for me.
