View Full Version : Rear Subframe painting
Has anyone got an idea of how much it'll cost to get my rear subframe sanded and painted/powdercoated and do you know of anywhere in norfolk that you'd recommend, if its not a stupid price i might get it done instead of me and a tin of hammerite
cheers
I asked a local place to me for a rough quote (didn't have the frame with me as it's still on the bike) and they said about £30. Thay also quoted me £40 per wheel but that's too much like tarting for me to afford at the moment.
was that for powder coat or paint and does it include sanding it down or do you have to prep it yourself
£40 a wheel doesnt sound too bad, i asked a wheel specialist in colchester, and they wanted £90 the pair, that was blasted and powder coated.
It was for the frame delivered and for them to do the whole job.

Can you see the rear subframe on a curvy? If not all your re-painting it for is to prevent corrosion and prolong the life of the subframe. Personally I'd just buy a tin of gloss finish black metal paint for not much more than a fiver. You get metal paints now that don't need any primer and contain rust inhibitors in the paint, so you just rub it back, clean it up with spirit and then paint it.
Or I've heard that if you use an enamel paint and apply it to a heated metal surface it will last as long as powercoating.
My XT600 you can see the subframe, but I'm still just going to paint it myself, as to see it you have to get your head down by the back wheel and look up, so nobody but me ever will.
I don't think £30 is to bad a price for it to be sorted out properly and it saves me the grief of sanding it all down.

Same i was quoted £30
Its a great feeling collecting some lovely clean powder coated bits as opposed to getting covered in old paint dust and cack :D but as my subframe was in fairly good condition, I just tarted up the rough bits with hamerite.
Only had bits done that can been seen, and they were well worth the £30 I had to pay as well, must be a standard bike parts price :D:D:D:D

Yep £40 is ok. They do all the pre paint prep
My sprayman would do the wheels for about £45 each. If you get wheels powder coated then you need to take the bearings out
Reminds me, need to get a sprayer to respray my lowers. mavic is your guy ips/south suffolk based?

He's in Felixstowe
Look up TriColour he's a great bloke, very friendly and prices aren't too bad, but paint is expensive even for the little tin of my Silver paint
