View Full Version : Hamicad fitting quality?
Hi there, newbie here.
I've just bought myself a 2007 SV650s and want to get myself a nice neat tail tidy. From reading the millions of threads it looks like the Hamicad is the one to go for however I was just wondering how well it fits. Is it OEM standard or am I going to end up with gaps that I'm gonna need to fill in?

Mine fits like a glove. No problems at all and the instructions that come with it are pretty good as well.
No gaps, piece of **** to fit. Had one for 5 years on my SV1000 with no problems at all.
You will need to think about a reflector - I nicked the one off the snow shovel, bent and drilled a piece of alu about 10mm x 35mm and bolted it to the bottom of the plate using a yellow number plate screw

Another endorsement for the hamicad, fitted fine.
My plate had a reflector fixed to it so didnt have to even touch that.
Cheers guys, that's exactly what I wanted to hear :)

I used the metal brace between the indicator lights from the snow shovel to make a reflector bracket. I just bent and drilled that. Looks perfect.
Anyone know the legality of fitting red reflective tape like (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HI-VIZ-DIAMOND-GRADE-RED-REFLECTIVE-TAPE-50MM-X-300MM-/270659953202?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CommercialVe hicleParts_SM&hash=item3f04972232) this over the number plate light?
Quick photoshop of what I mean.

From memory reflective tape is not legal-wise an allowable rear reflector.
Better than nothing though - which is what many bikes have.

Here's how did the bracket for a reflector using everything from the snow shovel. The bracket is just the indicator light brace, chopped, bent and drilled. The reflector is the one off the snow shovel. Everything is there for you and took me all of 5 mins.

That seems like a good idea, might do something similar.
or...
I might take a chance and just do without the rear reflector until it comes to MOT time when I'll refit the standard plate with some of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CYCLE-BIKE-NEW-SELF-ADHESIVE-12-PIECE-RED-REFLECTOR-SET-/120619508729?pt=UK_SportGoods_CyclAcces_RL&hash=item1c157ba3f9)stuck to it. That should do the job shouldn't it?

That's what I was going to do come MOT time in 2 1/2 years time (new bike). Then I thought sod, it's there for a reason and all the bits are on what I ripped off. It takes no time at all if you have a drill and a vice.
like the reflector mod, going to do the same to mine tomorrow. Thanks danf1234

Takes no time at all, you will just need a yellow number plate screw because it will be in the yellow of the number plate :D

Here's the other end of the bracket which shows basically what I did.

Have had a Hamicad for 5 years since new with no issues at all. I always thought it was illegal to have light showing from the number plate light? The Hamicad makes the light at such an angle you can see it from the back. I always fit a bit of plastic that covers the light just enough you can not see white light directly from behind.
Now i am thinking am i wasting my time doing this as no one else has mentioned covering the light?

Does anybody else have an issue in wet weather with water flicking off the rear wheel and getting into under the rear seat between the gap of the tail tidy and black ''under-tray''? I do...I was thinking about putting a bead of silicone sealant between the two to stop the water getting in.
It may be worse because I don't have a rear hugger...I'm after one if anyone has one in colour YC2 :)

It has happened to me yes. I have a pyramid hugger on, and that didn't really help. I had a good look at this and it would be very difficult to get the silicone in the right place to stop it.

However I am fitting a rear braided line to my bike today so I will go this a good coat of looking at!

I have had a good look at this today and I could see exactly where the water was coming in and where it was going because I had to ride home on a seriously wet and muddy road last time I was out, so I had muddy water lines.
It actually enters the bike just under the light and runs down under the belly pan, and enters the bike along the line where the metal lip of the tail tidy sits over the plastic belly pan.
I dropped the belly pan totally and put a large line of silicone on the line where it its and pushed it back up into place. I then smoothed the edge with my finger. I also built it up in each corner as they are gaps for ingress there too.
When you actually look the design is strange to allow that to happen, but I am certain I have sorted the problem now. It only ever leaked once in torrential rail, in normal wet conditions it was fine. However once was enough considering how much of the electrics are housed under there.
Sorry for the poor photo, but I think it shows what I mean.

Good man, that's exactly what i had in mind. I'll give it a go too.

Black cd case plastic cut into 2 triangle bits. I wedged it in and attached with screws. Bike has had a very nice dry under seat area for many years :)

What do you mean? Can you expand on that please?
Anyone know how long it normally takes to receive an order from Hamicad? Their website says it should be shipped next day but I ordered mine on Sunday and it's not here yet :(

Will post an image when i am back home tomorrow.

Cool looking forward to this.
Here we go and it may look odd but you can not see it as it is under bike. Call me paranoid but i did this same day i attached the Hamicad as i wanted it water tight.
